Hope for Kim Koopman

Hello. My name is Kimberly. I am 41 years-old. I have metastatic breast cancer. On May 1st, 2017 I recieved the most devastating news of my life:  Stage 4: Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. Not only was there a tumor in my breast, but a scan revealed a spot on my lung and on a bone in my upper arm.

After that news, it was decided I would start chemotherapy. My treatment started in June 2017, and lasted until December 2017. Although the chemotherapy treatment was very hard on my body, there were some good results. The spots on my lung and arm were gone!
A decision was made to switch to radiation to shrink the breast tumor even more. I underwent radiation everyday for a few weeks. Great results came from that, and a mastectomy was on order. On April 10th, 2018, I had the mastectomy. Again, my results were great. The pathology report indicated the cancer cells were dead! For a bit, remission seemed like it could be in my future, but cancer is so unpredictable.

In May 2018, I was at work when I started having a terrible headache. I was taken to ER and after testing it was discovered that I had 8 lesions on my brain. I started full head radiation every day for a couple of weeks. Things went well with that. I had good results with significant shrinkage of the lesions.

A couple of weeks ago, a headache came back. An MRI revealed two of the lesions were growing again. Brain surgery was now on the table. So on October 3, 2018, I underwent brain surgery to remove the largest lesion. I am currently in recovery from that. This week I will start another round of radiation on the other lesion.

I have been hospitalized 5 times since last October and have undergone countless MRIs, scans, doctor visits, tests, infections, blood transfusions ..and so much more. It's mind-boggling, really. Cancer has altered my life in so many ways. I never could have imagined. I am trying to fight this terrible disease with all of my might. I am not going to lie. It has not been easy.  It is hard and humbling to be in a postion to need help, but the bottom line is that I do.

Thank you in advance for any support you can give me. I don't have adequate words to fully express my humble gratitude.

Much love.
