<div><span>My name is Allison. I am a mother, a wife, and an active-duty member of the United States Navy. But before any title, I am Jade’s mom. Jade lives with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), epilepsy, and is dependent on a gastrostomy tube (G-tube) for her nutrition. When Jade was just a month and a half old, we took her to the hospital because, as parents, we knew something was not right. Upon arriving, we received news that would change our lives forever: doctors found a mass inside her heart.</span><br />

<div>Jade underwent open-heart surgery, and after that difficult experience, she was diagnosed with HIE, epilepsy, and developmental delays. When we were discharged from the hospital, instead of hope, we were given devastating prognoses. We were told Jade had lost her vision, that she would never be able to eat on her own, speak, or walk, and that she might not even be able to recognize me as her mother. Hearing this was heartbreaking.

<div>Since then, our lives have revolved around constant therapies and medical appointments with multiple specialists. Jade receives physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), and speech/feeding therapy three times a week. She also takes four different medications daily to control seizures, along with a ketogenic (KETO) diet to help manage them. We are often told that these therapies are not meant to help her improve, but simply to prevent her condition from worsening. Over time, I began to lose hope that my daughter would ever truly improve. That changed when I watched a movie called “Luca’s World,” which talked about a treatment called Cytotron being done in India. Although it seemed promising, I did not want to get my hopes up and set it aside.

<div>Recently, I began seeing many real stories of children like Jade, with similar diagnoses, who experienced incredible results after this treatment. After researching further, I learned that Cytotron is now also being tested in Monterrey, Mexico. I contacted the team, we had a Zoom interview, and a few days later I received news I will never forget: Jade was approved as a candidate for the procedure. In that moment, the hope I once lost came rushing back—stronger than ever. This treatment is not covered by insurance and requires us to cover medical expenses, travel, and lodging. The treatment cost is between $38,000-$40,000. As a military family, we do everything we can to provide for our children, but the total cost is beyond what we can manage on our own.

Cuando Jade tenía apenas un mes y medio de vida, la llevamos al hospital porque, como padres, sabíamos que algo no estaba bien. <br /><br /> Jade fue sometida a una cirugía a corazón abierto y, después de esa experiencia tan difícil, fue diagnosticada con HIE, epilepsia y retrasos en el desarrollo. Cuando nos dieron de alta del hospital, en lugar de esperanza, recibimos pronósticos devastadores. Nos dijeron que Jade había perdido la visión, que nunca podría comer por sí sola, hablar ni caminar, y que quizás ni siquiera podría reconocerme como su madre. Escuchar eso fue desgarrador.

<br /><br />Desde entonces, nuestras vidas giran en torno a terapias constantes y citas médicas con múltiples especialistas. Jade recibe terapia física (PT), terapia ocupacional (OT) y terapia del habla y alimentación tres veces por semana. También toma cuatro medicamentos diarios para controlar las convulsiones, además de seguir una dieta cetogénica (KETO) para ayudar a manejarlas. Con frecuencia nos dicen que estas terapias no están diseñadas para que ella mejore, sino simplemente para evitar que su condición empeore. Con el tiempo, comencé a perder la esperanza de que mi hija pudiera mejorar realmente. Eso cambió cuando vi una película llamada “Los dos hemisferios de Lucca”, donde se hablaba de un tratamiento llamado Cytotron que se realiza en India. Aunque parecía prometedor, no quise ilusionarme demasiado y lo dejé a un lado.
<br /><br /> Recientemente, comencé a ver muchas historias reales de niños como Jade, con diagnósticos similares, que experimentaron resultados increíbles después de este tratamiento. Tras investigar más, supe que Cytotron ahora también se está probando en Monterrey, México. Me puse en contacto con el equipo, tuvimos una entrevista por Zoom y, unos días después, recibí una noticia que nunca olvidaré: Jade fue aprobada como candidata para el procedimiento. En ese momento, la esperanza que una vez había perdido regresó con más fuerza que nunca.Este tratamiento no está cubierto por el seguro y requiere que cubramos los gastos médicos, de viaje y hospedaje. El costo del tratamiento está entre $38,000 y $40,000. Como familia militar, hacemos todo lo posible por proveer para nuestros hijos, pero el costo total supera lo que podemos manejar por nuestra cuenta.
<br /><br />Hoy estoy aquí para pedir su apoyo y recaudar fondos que nos ayuden a llevar a Jade a México y darle una verdadera oportunidad de mejorar su calidad de vida. Una oportunidad de algún día poder sentarse, caminar, comer, hablar y ser más independiente. No estamos pidiendo un milagro. Estamos pidiendo una oportunidad que todo niño merece.
