Meet Ayah.
Ayah is believed to be a 11-13 yr old Lab cross, possibly from a neglected home. She was found a stray. Were hoping she has just been missing a long time from a loving home! Weighed in at 30lbs of bone, emaciated, dehydrated, terribly wounded, eyes are infected and pussing from trauma, blind. A choke collar I had to cut off her neck. Ears swelled, no hearing. Sweet as an angel, she needs some help to recover.
The Story:
We found her dazed and confused in the middle of the road on a dark night, I almost hit her. I immediately got out to tend to this poor soul. She didn't even flinch at my big truck inches from her. She was unresponsive to noise, claps and calls, obviously deaf. As she stumbled away in the opposite direction from me, her frail body made it's way in front of my headlights. She was barely able to stay upright, swaying, stumbling and dragging her paws as she slowly walked down the road. She appeared to be dark brown, and was covered in fleas, ticks and maggots on her ears. Her eyes were so full of puss she was totally blind. I have been fortunate enough to rescue many dogs in my past and always keep a safety blanket in my truck, for this reason more than my own safety. I followed her a little trying to get her attention, with no luck. She made her way to the woods across from my home, with dinner leftovers in hand, I caught her by smell and loured her over. I covered her in this blanket and she literally collapsed in my arms. She came home. I noticed a collar, the choke on it was soo tight she has open wounds around her neck. I had to cut it off her. That night with a small bit of food, water and a good soak later, she was blonde, not dark brown, maggots, fleas & ticks removed, I treated her wounds and cleaned her ears & eyes. She thanked me with all she had, 1 small, meek lick to the cheek.
She was not strong enough to stand on her own. Not used to food, I had to portion it, even then she would vomit while eating. I wrapped her in the freshly washed blanket I first put on her and she passed out on her new bed. I fed her a handfull every 3hrs throughout the night and syringed water. She is finally holding down food, started walking around. I brought her to the local vet.
She has begun her special diet, she received a good ear clean & nail trim. Her eyes were flushed. She was given meds for her eyes.
Im excited to say that by that evening, she is able to see better, she heard me put food in her bowl and stood up on her own. She is walking on her own!
She needs more tests when she's of a decent weight. She needs spayed and more meds for eyes. She will possibly require pain meds in her healing for her arthritic hips.
We added her to our family today. I named her Ayah (Greek for "miracle blessing"). We are hoping some good hearts out there can help us get her everything she needs to live out the last years happily!
