Hope for Abused and Neglected Girls in Guatemala

Tax deductible
Hope Renewed International is an organization working in Guatemala, rescuing girls from situations of abuse and neglect. Our home in Mazatenango, Guatemala offers a place for these girls to escape the horror that exists in their lives, replacing evil with loving care and hope for a better future. To secure the future of this home from now through 2020, we need your help immediately to raise $180,000.

The statistics on violence against young girls in Guatemala are staggering! In the first nine months of 2018 in Guatemala there were 4,576 instances of sexual assault of children under 18 years old. Of those reported assaults, 90 percent were committed against women  and girlsFrom January to July of 2018, 2,102 pregnancies in Guatemalan girls aged 10-14 were registered by the Ministry of Health. Only 39% of Guatemalan girls go beyond a 6th grade education, robbing them of hope for the future and prolonging the cycle of poverty and dependency

Hope Renewed’s Girls Home provides shelter for up to 30 girls, 7-18 years old, who have been removed from their homes by the government due to crimes of neglect and abuse. Our highly trained and qualified Guatemalan staff consists of a director, a psychologist, a social worker, a teacher and a team of caregivers. Upon arrival at the home, the girls are assessed so that we can satisfy psychological, emotional, educational, and physical needs that they have. We come alongside these girls, offering healing as they recover and restoring them to the young woman they’re created to be.

15 year old Alba is a perfect example of the impact that Hope Renewed is having at our home in Mazatenango.  Alba lost her mom when she was only one-year-old. Moving from home to home between different family members, Alba became a victim of severe abuse and abandonment. Alba came to us at the age of 13 suffering from insecurity and low self esteem as a result of the years of abuse and mistreatment from her family.

Today, Alba is flourishing in many areas of her life. She's studying culinary arts and is one of the top students in her class.  Alba easily relates to others and has no issues expressing herself.  Her life has completely turned around and today, Alba realizes that she is loved and God has a plan for her life!

To secure this home and keep our commitment to these girls through 2020, we need to raise $180,000 immediately.  Here is the breakdown of how these funds will be used:

·      $12,000 for food, clothing and toiletries

·      $3,000 for education including tuition, uniforms and supplies

·      $125,000 for salaries and leadership development (15 months)

·      $30,000 for a bus to provide safe transportation & gas for a year

·      $10,000 for operating costs

In addition to covering the overall expenses for the Girls Home, we need to raise money to provide a source of transportation for the girls to be able to get to school, court appointments, medical visits and more. Our current bus came to the end of its usable life, leaving us with the inability to transport the girls in a way that feasible and efficient. The need for reliable transportation is significant and is included in our overall fundraising goal.

The reality is that if we are unable to meet our annual commitment now, we will be in an unfortunate position of having to close this home forever. Closing the home means a future of girls that will not have the safety, security and love that this home has provided since Hope Renewed took it over. Will you help by giving the gift of HOPE for these girls today?

More About Hope Renewed: Hope Renewed International is a non-profit organization working in Guatemala, one of the poorest nations in the world where it is estimated that nearly half of the 15 million people live on less than $2.00 per day and 15% on less than a $1.00 per day.  Guatemala's social development indicators such as infant mortality, chronic child malnutrition, and illiteracy are among the worst in the hemisphere. Hope Renewed began in 2010 with the determination to make a sustainable difference in the lives of individuals who are experiencing poverty of spirit, being, community and stewardship.  When impoverished people experience this depth of human poverty, they feel unable to imagine a way out, but OPPORTUNITY BRINGS HOPE.  Join us in our efforts to lovingly serve the poor, while creating opportunities for people in at-risk communities without creating dependency on an organization. Hope Renewed International is a 501(c)(3) organization.
