In light of our conference postponement, the Women's Mental Health Conference at Yale (WMHC)'s trainee committee has decided to direct our efforts to causes affecting women during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are thrilled to launch a fundraiser and awareness campaign to support the Hope Family Justice Center, a New Haven-based center that providers services to survivors of gender-based violence during the pandemic. 1:1 Matching funds are available - your donation will be DOUBLED (up to the $5,000 limit)!  Many people do not know that the pandemic has contributed to increasing gender-based violence in our <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/07/us/nyc-domestic-violence-website-surging/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">communities</a>, with requests for help increasing by 25-30% <a href="https://www.courant.com/coronavirus/hc-news-connecticut-coronavirus-domestic-violence-increase-20200813-sk2rfn36nvcjbp3wljklxt3zni-story.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">in some areas</a>. Because victims are quarantining with abusers and resources are increasingly difficult to access, victims are at higher risk of <a href="https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/following-spike-domestic-violence-during-covid-19-pandemic-secretary-governor-melissa-derosa" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">serious violence</a>.  During the pandemic, HFJC has fielded a record amount of calls and referrals and is scrambling to keep up with the increase of housing needs, basic supplies and other services to its clients. Founded in 2019, the Hope Family Justice Center of Greater New Haven (HFJC) is a remarkable program that provides FREE multidisciplinary and bilingual services to survivors of domestic violence under one roof. It is client-centered, trauma-responsive, strength-based and hope-driven. HFJC offers a one-stop shop to receive free wraparound services in a holistic approach for the victim and their family. The HFJC coordinates 26 community partners and 52 total collaborators so victims can access immediate and direct services. By providing support and healing, access to services and pathways to empowerment, the HOPE Center is dedicated to replacing violence with safety, despair with optimism, uncertainty with hope.  We hope to fundraise $5,000 for HFJC to assist them in their mission of providing sensitive care to survivors.  Additionally, WMHC will be sponsoring 3 seminars for HFJC to educate clinicians around the New Haven community to better support survivors when they seek help.  About The Family Justice Center Model: - A victim-centered, survivor-driven philosophy - One trip to more efficiently deliver services - Confidential, voluntary, safe - Remove the barriers of transportation and childcare - Free services - Identified as a best practice in the field of domestic violence intervention and prevention services by the United States Department of Justice.
