At just 18 months old, Dante was diagnosed with Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis (“RRP”), a rare disease in which tumors generally grow in the larynx, vocal cords, and upper airway of children. There is no cure for RRP - surgery is the primary method for removing these tumors, but they have a tendency to return unpredictably. It is common for patients to require multiple surgeries in the same area to remove reoccurring tumors. Dante has endured 85 surgeries to date – and he is only 25 years old. In 2011 right around Christmas, he had his most complex and life-altering surgery, which included the removal of one of his lungs, four of his ribs, a large portion of his back muscles, as well as replacing his chest cavity. Dante also suffered severe nerve damage during the surgery which results in almost constant pain. In addition, the RRP has evolved into Squamous Cell and Osteogenic cancer.
We are asking for your help with the medical and basic living costs associated with Dante’s condition, including the costs of medical treatments for the cancer and RRP. Dante is house-ridden, which can improve, but his daily needs are demanding as he requires constant homecare, including trying to keep his pain manageable. We want to improve his quality of life so that he can actually focus on living the life of purpose he desires. You see, Dante’s goal is to start and run a non-for-profit for the benefit of children who are hospitalized for extended periods of time – something my son is very familiar with during his life. He has done countless hours of business planning and research, but his daily pain make it difficult for him to focus on anything for an extended period of time. Countless surgeries may have taken physical pieces of my boy, but they can’t touch his heart, his courage, or his soul. For all that he has been through, he still doesn’t see himself as a victim, and just wants to live as much of a normal life as possible - something your donations can help him achieve. He always puts others before himself – for example, we tried to start a Go Fund Me Page months ago for him, but he made us stop because he wanted any charity dollars to go to the victims of Hurricane Irma, not him. Just recently, there was a rare occurrence where he was able to get out of the house – he asked that we go to Wal-Mart and buy supplies for the homeless. I’m a very proud mom, but a mom that truly needs your help with my son. Unfortunately, as most of us know, insurance just simply doesn’t cover nearly enough, and we are in need of any help and assistance you can provide, monetary or otherwise. If you choose to donate, thank you very much, and regardless, I really appreciate you taking the time to hear my son’s story.
