Hope and Hair for Melanie

Just imagine for a moment that you are a small child, that has only known a bright life full of giggles, friends, and community. Then one day after not feeling well for a while and many tests later you are told that you have Leukemia.
Just imagine for a moment you are that parent, you have been working on spelling lists with one and two syllable spelling words, now instead of sounding out simple words, you need to find the words to explain and define Leukemia for your child. You must explain the tests she must continue to endure, treatment options, the missed play dates, hair loss and the threats to a low immune system. You are no longer supporting education at home; you are the educator at home because your child can no longer attend school.
Now breathe, hopefully, your family will never feel this heartache.
Melanie Bishop is a 2nd grader at Molly Ockett School that has recently been diagnosed with Leukemia. Melanie, her parents, Justin and Kim, and brothers, Trent, Kyle, and Gavin are in a battle no family should have to face alone and they need our help.
Olivia and Danielle, two of Melanie’s friends, were talking after seeing pictures of Melanie and decided they wanted to shave their heads in support of their friend. After a discussion with their parents, they decided if they could raise money for Melanie's family that would be helpful too. Specifically, these two animal lovers would like to raise funds to help support a years’ worth of food and in-home training for Melanie’s new puppy. Melanie is unable to have play dates or attend school because of her immune system, this puppy is more than just a pet, Zippy is her best friend.
Together Olivia and Danielle have set a goal to raise $1000 by mid-June. When they have reached their goal, they will shave their heads in support of Melanie. They would love for other kids to join their efforts and pledge to raise money too.
