In the Fall of 2016 my mother, Monique, learned her breast cancer had metastisized. It spread throughout her bones to her ribs and spine. Throughout her 42 years of life she survived hardships most could not imagine. She had previously battled cervical cancer in 2007 and breast cancer in 2015. She’s had three surgeries and undergone hundreds of hours of chemotherapy and radiation. Her illness and the aggressive treatments have taken a great toll on her, affecting her stamina, mobility, muscle and bone strength, and her mental and emotional health. This time around, with stage 4 cancer, there is not much that traditional medicine can accomplish. All they can do is manage her pain and monitor the growth of her tumors. Recently we’ve received some good news, that by God’s grace and mercy her tumors have shrunk. However her tumor markers are increasing and doctors do not know why.
Upon researching all possible treatment options and methods my family has discovered many surprising differences of cancer treatment between traditional and alternative medicine. One disheartening surprise came when we realized some advice my mother was given by her oncologist was contradictory to our findings online. For example, after my mother’s weight began to diminish it was recommended by her doctor to increase her caloric intake to regain the weight she’d lost. Makes sense, right? But the advice she was given was to “eat whatever you want”, load up on carbs, fatty and sugary foods, “drink milkshakes.” This is not only unhealthy from a nutritional standpoint, but it is dangerous for someone with cancer. Foods with high fat and sugar content feed tumors and help them grow, why would a doctor recommend this type of diet? Especially when there is an abundance of healthy foods that can help her maintain her weight as well as help fight her cancer cells.
After countless hours of research and consulting friends in similar circumstances we discovered Hope 4 Cancer. This organization is dedicated to treating those with cancer from an individualistic approach. They utilize a team of doctors who specialize in different forms of alternative medicine to give a complete life plan for their patients. Hope 4 Cancer has had many success stories, including full recovery for some patients.
At this time my family is asking for help in sending my mother to the Hope 4 Cancer center in Cancun, Mexico to extend and improve her quality of life. The total cost of treatment is $42,000, which includes the treatment(s), follow up exams, up to one year of medication, hotel accomodations, meals, transportation, and any taxes/fees. Donations will be going towards the cost of my mother’s treatment at Hope 4 Cancer. Funds will be deposited into a non-profit account and used to aid someone else receive treatment if my mother is unable to.
