A brighter future for kids at Edison Elementary

Hoonigan is proud to team up with Edison Elementary School to support a variety of their 2020 educational programs. Having been our across-the-street neighbors since 2015, we are stoked to contribute to improve the students’ education and experience - and this is an opportunity for our fans and supporters to do the same." 

Thomas Edison School is a proud inner city school that serves low income families in the heart of Long Beach downtown area. Edison has a diverse population of underserved students that are mostly English Language Learners who are eager to learn and become 21st century scholars.

Here are the programs that will be funded from this campaign:

Garden Project: Youth Garden Education

Ground Education a non-profit organization will be partnering with Edison school to provide students with a year-round garden education,health and environmental awareness, hands-on meaningful connection with nature, explore key science curricular standards outdoors, build awareness of fresh nutritious foods and taste their garden grown efforts. Below is an estimate from Ground Education of the cost for the garden.

Library

The age of the book collection at Edison School averages 15 years. We propose to add hundreds of titles and in addition to nonfiction titles supporting the curriculum, the additional collection will focus on high interest selections including award winning picture books, graphic novels, proven to help spark young students engagement in reading.

Field Trips

Grade levels plan one field trip of their choice to support the learning in their classrooms. Students are more likely to retain information by participating in grade level trips. Field trips help reinforce classroom curriculum and standards by bringing lessons to life. School trips give students the opportunity to visualise, experience and discuss information on a subject. One of the challenges of planning field trips is the cost of the bus. Buses average $455 (4-5 hours) each. Typically two classrooms can fit in each bus.

Student Events (Student of the Month /Student Reward Store / Red Ribbon Week)

Incentives for students who are showing good character, academic improvement/effort and recognizing Red Ribbon Week.
