I share with a heavy heart that my sister Platina took her life on December 28th 2017. My family and I are absolutely devastated and keep reflecting on how much more we could have done. My sister Platina was one of 5 girls and a brother. She had all the support that she was willing to accept, but, she suffered mentally which we discovered shortly before her leaving us. By then, it was too late. Her death has been tragic and fast and we wish we knew more. She has left me externally, but not internally.
Platina was a victim of Mental Health, which led her to her death. Her mind was fractured but she coped - she laughed, smiled, and was the light of our family. She wanted more from life but couldn’t reach a point of mental peace.
Mental Health affects millions of young people, I know it’s prevalent in today's generation and I feel services for young people suffering with mental health issues are poor. The world we live in today is understandably challenging for young adults and its disappointing that I have had this come to my 24 year old sister. I hope to be able to spread my sisters story and encourage suicidal people to ask for help.
Platina had a lot going for her, she was an aspiring accountant who made her journey through uni even when having to work and pay for her course and taking almost 5 years to complete - she never gave in and got her BA Degree. Platina was a hard worker and always had a job - she never stopped. She wanted to achieve in life and she had so much going for her.
Platina was the funniest and smiliest person I know. Honestly, if she wasn’t the centre of attention cracking a joke, she was at the back of the room, smiling and mumbelling silly witty comments! She was our sunshine on any dark day.
The cost of a funeral is surprisingly high, but we would like to give Platina the send off, she not only deserves, but would want. It will also help my family whilst recovering from this tragic event.
All donations will be used to assist my family with funeral expenses, a memorial and to support the family through this hard time. Every penny counts and every penny is appreciated.
Prayers and positive thoughts are cherished. We love to hear how Platina lit up everyone's lives and the aftermath of her death has proven how many lives she touched.
