Atta Elayyan tragically lost his life along with 48 other worshippers during the Christchurch mosque terror attacks.
He leaves behind his wife, his infant daughter, and his grieving parents (including injured father, one of the founders and caretakers of Al Noor Mosque). He was taken from his family and friends who are scattered all around the world but are united in mourning him as well as the rest of the victims.
We are his cousins in America, Canada, Britain, Jordan, Kuwait, Palestine. We may live far apart but in our hearts we are his brothers and sisters, we love him so much, he was our big brother. We all knew him as the kindest soul, a great son, wonderful nephew, loving husband, amazing dad. We will always remember his ever-present smile and his easily triggered laugh. We weep for his daughter who will grow up to know her father only through the fondest memories and stories told by all the people he's touched. We are all shaken today.
Please help us honour Atta. Please help us support his family rebuild through these extraordinarily tragic times. Help us show the families of Christchurch that there is love. Love from family, friends, and kind strangers that will always shine a light through the darkness of hate and violence.
Atta was one of us. The 49 were us.
We are so grateful for all your prayers and support.
