Im Alyx, I’m in recovery, and I struggled over years of addiction with homelessness, loneliness, emptiness, lack of trust or support, trauma, abuse, and so much more.
in recovery, I lost my brother Zach. He had the biggest heart for giving. Holidays can be hard… This Christmas, my heart is calling me back to the people and places that shaped who I am today. I recently did a giveaway in Zach’s honor, and it felt good to help. I’m not done, though.
I’m putting together Christmas gift bags for individuals who are struggling, experiencing homelessness, as well as those in recovery, people who deserve to feel seen, remembered, and cared for during the holidays. Not everyone has the luxury of family, support, or even warmth.
This time of year always brings a mix of gratitude and grief. It reminds me deeply of people who are no longer with us. One year, while I was working at my very first treatment center, Zach and I personally put together 50 gift bags, one for every client (plus a few more people). That was the year he passed.
Carrying on that spirit feels like the most meaningful way to honor him, and to honor the people who just need a little love this season.
Each gift bag will include:
• A warm blanket
• Socks
• A small inspirational token meant to offer hope and dignity.
My goal is to serve around 100 people.
Roughly $30 provides one full gift bag for one person.
I’m able to personally cover about 15 bags, but with support, I can reach so many more. If we raise more, I’ll serve more, that’s the simple goal.
On Christmas Day, I’ll be spending the day in our community with my son, personally delivering these bags and connecting with people face to face.
I know this is last-minute, and there’s absolutely no pressure. But if your heart feels pulled and you’re able to give, no matter the amount, please do…it would mean everything. Every contribution directly turns into warmth, comfort, and a reminder that someone cares.
Thank you for helping me honor Zach, spread love, and make this Christmas a little brighter for those who need it most. ❤️
With so much gratitude,
Alyx
