<div>My name is Ashlyn Plaza and I am 25 years old and I have a younger sister who is 14 years old. We just lost our mother to breast cancer this Wednesday, May 31st at around 6 am. We were not ready for the loss of our mother emotionally or financially as she was a single mom raising two daughters by herself. Years ago, wanting to make sure we were covered in the event something unexpectedly happened, she tried applying for life insurance. Unfortunately, because of her diabetes and other conditions, she did not qualify. As a struggling single mother, she was neither in a position to be able to put money away for savings.

<div>My mother was a very dedicated mother. A leader at our church, a lover of people and would always see the good in them. She was a woman full of faith who kept her smile, her love, and her positive attitude till her last day. She was the kind of person that with one hug, she made you feel that everything would be alright and that things would work out for the good. She volunteered for several years and lead the “Crossroads” after school Kids Program. The kids loved my mother and miss her greatly. She understood the importance of educating and loving our children, the importance of building them up so that they can become their best and believe that they can.

No estábamos preparadas para la pérdida de nuestra madre ni emocional ni financieramente, ya que era una madre soltera que criaba sola a dos hijas. Hace años, queriendo asegurarse de que estuviéramos cubiertos en caso de que sucediera algo inesperado, intentó solicitar un seguro de vida. Desafortunadamente, debido a su diabetes y otras condiciones, no calificó. Como madre soltera en apuros, no estaba en condiciones de poder ahorrar dinero.

<div>Mi madre era una madre muy dedicada. Una líder en nuestra iglesia, una amante de las personas y siempre veía lo bueno en ellas. Fue una mujer llena de fe que mantuvo su sonrisa, su amor y su actitud positiva hasta el último día. Ella era el tipo de persona que con un solo abrazo te hacía sentir que todo estaría bien y que las cosas saldrían bien. Fue voluntaria durante varios años y dirigió el programa para niños después de la escuela "Crossroads". Los niños amaban a mi madre y la extrañan mucho. Ella entendió la importancia de educar y amar a nuestros hijos, la importancia de edificarlos para que puedan llegar a ser lo mejor y creer que pueden hacerlo.
