<div>Our family has recently experienced an unfathomable tragedy. Our mother, Karla Abarca, was suddenly taken from us through gun violence on an afternoon after running errands with her daughter. Her loss has robbed our family of decades of memories, love, guidance, and time we should have had with her. Most painfully, two of her children are now left to find their way through this world without their mother beside them to guide and nurture them.

</div>
<div>We want to share our mother’s story with those who knew and loved her, and with those who may now have the opportunity to learn about the remarkable woman she was.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Karla had a free and generous spirit. She had a gift for making friends with anyone she met and could make people feel welcome wherever she went. She also had a heart that made it nearly impossible for her to see someone in need and simply walk away.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>One of the things we will always remember about her was the way she responded to strangers who needed a little help. If she ever saw someone running to catch a bus and miss it, she wouldn't just drive past. She would pull over, open the car door, and call out, “Hop in!” She would then drive them to the next stop so they wouldn't have to wait for the next bus. It was such a small thing, but it captured so much of who our mom was. She noticed people. She cared. And when she could make someone's day a little easier, she did.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>She was an amazing mother to her five children and deeply loved her grandchildren, who brought her so much happiness and joy.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>My mother was the heart and manager of our home—a woman who took charge, cared deeply, and always found a way to make things work. She was the primary caretaker for our grandmother, who is currently battling Stage 4 ovarian cancer. She devoted herself to nurturing her two youngest children and loved her husband deeply. Her presence can be felt throughout our family home, in every nook and cranny, and we are constantly reminded of the life and love she poured into our family.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We are still navigating the unimaginable reality of learning how to live without her constant love, guidance, and support. While we are incredibly grateful for the village that has surrounded and supported us during this devastating time, there are many challenges ahead as we begin rebuilding our lives without her.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Any donation, no matter the amount, would mean so much to our family. Contributions will help offset the costs of laying our mother to rest, help our family adjust to this new life without her, and most importantly, help ensure that her two youngest children have the stability and opportunity to continue pursuing their education and building their futures.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thank you for taking the time to learn about our mother, for remembering Karla, and for standing with our family during one of the most difficult moments of our lives. We are deeply grateful for every prayer, kind word, act of support, and contribution.

<div>Update as of 08/29/2026:
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>First, a sincere and deep thank you for everyone who has donated and shared our fundraiser to support our family at this time. We are grateful for the kind words, prayers, and wishes that have been sent our way. ❤️
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>As we continue learning how to live without our mom, we are realizing that the road ahead will be much harder than we imagined.
</div>
<div>My mom’s passing was sudden and violent, and the trauma has deeply affected our entire family. Because of the circumstances of her death and the impact it has had on my younger siblings we believe grief and trauma/PTSD counseling will be an important part of our healing.
</div>
<div>At the same time, we’re learning to carry the responsibilities our Mom did; she was the Wonder- Woman of our home and we will forever be grateful for her. She was the primary caregiver for my grandmother, who is battling cancer and as my grandmother’s condition worsens, my dad is now trying to balance caring for his mother, providing for the household, and grieving the loss of his wife.
</div>
<div>Earlier this year, my dad also lost his father to cancer. My parents were supposed to face that loss and its unexpected financial burden together. Instead, my dad is now processing the loss of his father, his wife, and the high chance of losing his mother—all within 6 months.
</div>
<div>We are keeping this fundraiser up after her Memorial to help our family navigate the unexpected financial burdens that have come with this loss, including counseling, caregiving, household expenses, and the many responsibilities my mom carried, now all on my Dad.
</div>
<div>My Dad doesn’t like to ask for things, so I am asking on my family’s behalf, please continue sharing this fundraiser and every donation counts no matter how small.
</div>
<div>More than anything, your support gives our family a little breathing room to focus on grieving, healing, and taking care of one another.
</div>
<div>Thank you for standing beside us during the hardest time of our lives ❤️
