Honoring Juanita and her legacy of love

Dearest Family, Friends and Community,

We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved mother, daughter, sister, community member and food activist Juanita Reynolds unexpectedly made her transition on June 3, 2022. Juanita leaves behind her daughter, Lyrik; her mother Daisy and sisters Vanessa and Cynthia.

Juanita lived guided by a deep spiritual conviction to be of service. She brightened the lives of many as a food justice activist committed to feeding low income families and teaching clean eating in and around Detroit.

Juanita was a free spirited and boundlessly loving person. She would light up any room she entered with her luminous energy. She was loyal to her family and friends. She cared so deeply for anyone whose paths crossed hers. An amazing chef, she created magical meals. In 2015 she started her non-profit, Feed Our 1st, as a labor of love, providing fresh food to families in need. In 2020, when the pandemic hit, Juanita used EVERYTHING she had to provide for low-income families who were part of her program.

The family is beyond devastated by Juanita’s loss and were not prepared for the unexpected costs of a funeral service and the cost of care that Lyrik will need during this time.

We are seeking donations to cover funeral costs and to support her daughter Lyrik.

Whether you knew Juanita as family, friend, church member, or as beneficiary of her organization, your support is needed now to honor her life and her legacy. Juanita and family have touched the lives of so many through their dedication and contributions to the community. Now is the time to show up for them, cover them in love, and ensure that Juanita is able to rest in peace.

We must raise $20,000 immediately to cover the costs of services and for the support and care of Lyrik. We need to raise a total of $45,000 by July 4th to cover ongoing support for Lyrik and Juanita’s family in this tragic time.
