<div>Help Us Lay Jean Wilson Brutus to Rest With Dignity
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>My name is Evans Belony, and I am writing as the spokesperson for our family during one of the most painful moments of our lives.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Our beloved cousin, Jean Wilson Brutus, was taken from us far too soon. He died mysteriously while under ICE custody, and to this day, as I am writing this, our family still has no clear answers about what truly happened, what transpired in his final moments, or the cause of his death. The lack of transparency has deepened our grief and left us with unanswered questions that no family should have to live with.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>For those who want to learn more about the legal aspects of Jean’s case, the attorneys representing our family has issued an official press release, which can be found here: <a href="https://rb.gy/7e0ubc" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><a href="https://rb.gy/7e0ubc" target="_blank" class="" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://rb.gy/7e0ubc</a></a>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Jean fled Haiti because he was living in a warzone. In the capital city, gang violence had taken over daily life. Innocent people lived in constant fear, and survival itself became uncertain. Jean did not leave his homeland because he wanted to. He left because he wanted to live.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>He came to the United States hoping for safety, stability, and the chance to build a better future. He believed in the American dream and wanted to become a contributing member of society. He believed in hard work, kindness, and helping others whenever he could.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Jean was a poor man in terms of money and social status, but he was rich in heart. He was a gentle and selfless soul, known for always helping with his hands and expecting nothing in return. He showed love through action.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Today, our family is faced with the responsibility of giving Jean the farewell he deserves.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Because of the sudden and tragic nature of his death, and the circumstances surrounding it, funeral costs, cemetery expenses, and the repass have become an overwhelming burden. At the same time, Jean’s story has drawn national attention, and we have received an outpouring of sympathy, prayers, and support from people who believe that his life mattered.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This GoFundMe is about more than money.
</div>
<div>It is about dignity.
</div>
<div>It is about respect.
</div>
<div>It is about ensuring that Jean is laid to rest with honor.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>All funds raised will go toward:

<div>Funeral and memorial services
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Cemetery and burial expenses
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Repass arrangements so family, friends, and supporters can gather to remember Jean properly
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Every donation, no matter the amount, helps us honor Jean’s life. If you are unable to donate, sharing this page and keeping our family in your prayers means just as much.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Jean may have lived quietly, but his life and his story have touched the world. With your help, we can ensure that he is remembered not only for the mystery surrounding his death, but for who he truly was, a gentle soul who deserved safety, dignity, and care.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thank you for standing with our family.
</div>
<div>Thank you for honoring Jean Wilson Brutus.

<div>[UPDATE]
</div>
<div>On behalf of our family, I sincerely thank everyone who donated, shared, and prayed for us during this difficult time.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Because of your generosity, we were able to fund Jean Wilson Brutus’ funeral service, burial interment, and repass reception. Your support allowed us to lay him to rest with dignity and honor.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The funeral was held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, and was hosted by Island Memorial Funeral Home. They did a remarkable job and truly held our hands through every step of this sudden and painful loss. We are deeply grateful for their compassion and professionalism.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The ceremony was officiated by Jean Pierre Paul, Kettly Doxy, and myself. It was a meaningful tribute to Jean’s life and gentle spirit.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>For those who were unable to attend, the service was livestreamed and can be viewed under his obituary at Island Memorial Funeral Home:
