Hello, my name is Kokie Saidi Kakooza, and I am reaching out on behalf of the Ugandan community in Indiana. We are coming together to support the children of Jamila Nabunjo, a 33-year-old mother from Uganda whose life was tragically cut short. Jamila was an immigrant, hoping for a better life and future for herself and her daughters. Sadly, her dreams were never realized. On September 29, 2019, Jamila passed away in Mexico while awaiting asylum in the United States. She died from complications of sepsis, pneumonia, and tuberculosis, leaving behind her two young daughters, Now, Shadika Namugerwa (6) and Husinah Nakabugo (17).
Despite the heartbreaking circumstances of her passing, Jamila always had high hopes for her children’s future. She wanted them to receive the best education possible and have opportunities to build a better life. Shadika, at just six years old, is in Primary 1, full of promise and potential. Husinah, 17, has recently completed her Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) And passed in Grade 1 with outstanding results, including A’s and B’s in core subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Husinah aspires to become a doctor, and with the right support, she can achieve this dream.
Why We Need Your Help:
The Ugandan community in Indiana has come together to raise funds to support Shadika and Husinah in continuing their education. Our goal is to raise $5,500 USD to help cover the following:
Shadika’s tuition fees for Primary School. (Elementary - Middle School).
Husinah’s tuition fees for A-Level education, where she hopes to study a combination of BCM/ICT (Majoring in Biology) and pursue her medical dreams.
Additional educational expenses such as books, supplies, and school-related needs.
Your generous donation will ensure that Jamila’s children can continue their education, something their mother worked so hard to provide for them. We want to honor Jamila’s memory and her dreams for her children by helping them achieve the bright future she always envisioned.
