Our hearts are shattered as we share the devastating news that Giana Dettloff was tragically taken from us in Sunday morning's mass shooting at Illinois Wesleyan University. Anyone who knew Giana knows she was a confident, joyful, and beautiful light. She brought so much energy and happiness into every room she walked into, and her absence leaves a void that can never be filled.

There are no words to describe the pain of losing a child, especially under such heartbreaking and unimaginable circumstances. A parent should never have to say goodbye to their daughter this way. Brothers should never lose their little sister. And no 19-year-old should lose their life to gun violence. Our dear friends are facing the most difficult moment of their life, and we want to surround them with the love, support, and compassion they so desperately need.

As the Dettloff family navigates this devastating and impossible grief, we want to surround them with as much love and support as possible. While we cannot take away their pain, we can help lighten their load.

We are creating this GoFundMe to help support the Dettloff family as they navigate this unimaginable loss. The suddenness of this tragedy has brought overwhelming emotional and financial burdens, including funeral and memorial expenses, and the many unexpected costs that come with such a heartbreaking loss. In addition, we hope to establish a lasting memorial in Giana's honor. Your generosity will help us honor her legacy in a way that continues to make a difference in years to come.

Our hope is to ease some of these burdens so that the family can focus on grieving, remembering their beautiful Gi, and being surrounded by the people who love her.

We want Giana to be remembered for the life she lived, the love she gave, and the beautiful memories she leaves behind. Her life mattered, and she will never be forgotten.
