Hello, I’m Ronnie and Ebi is my baby. Ebi came to me in June 2022 while stationed in Japan. He was found in a car engine on base. I volunteered to take him in over the weekend because I already had pets on my lease. He was such a sweet boy that I kept him. He came back to the US with me 5mos later. He’s been my sweet boy since.
I came home from lunch and he was under one of the chairs. I put out his tube treat and some dental treats and he didn’t move. I went onto the couch and figured he was just sleepy. Noticed he was breathing kind of heavy. I picked him up and put him next to his treats and he laid down on top of his dental treats. I picked him up and held him on the couch and noticed he was very limp/lethargic and still breathing very heavily. My roommate checked his gums and they were pale and I checked his litter box and he had not gone in almost 24hrs. Took him to the ER. They check his temp and it was very low, 94.1°, opposed to the normal 99-102° for cats. They drew blood and did X-rays. His X-rays shows his lungs were very cloudy, either congestive heart failure or asthma. They put him in an oxygen chamber with the heat on to help raise his body temp. While waiting for the radiologist, his blood came back very dehydrated, hematocrit was nearly double normal value. They had to wait for radiologist bc they didn’t want to give him liquids if it was a heart issue. Turns out it was a heart issue. They needed him to pee to help expel the liquid in his lungs from his blood vessels deteriorating due to the heart disease. But he was too dehydrated. They gave him a little liquid and also lasix to help remove the liquid in his lungs. Doc said if he responds that it will be a life of lasix shots daily and that he would have less than a year left before his little heart gives out. The first dose didn’t have any improvement and after 2 hours they gave him a second dose of Lasix but his breathing got worse. He made the decision for me. He wasn’t going to make it through the night, so they put him down to take away his pain straining to breathe.
When I came back from deployment, I missed the email about my pet insurance ending. I need help paying the bills for his treatments along with his euthanasia and cremation.
Any amount helps. Thank you.
