HONK!TX 10th Annual Festival

HONK!TX is a free festival of community street bands in Austin, Texas. Now in its tenth year, HONK!TX will host 20+ brass and marching bands from across the country and around the world to perform FOR FREE in Austin's public and community spaces. Our festival's goals are to create and support community through music, to dissolve the line between performer and audience, and to create a joyous atmosphere of celebration and shared experience.

Fully acoustic and mobile, HONK bands borrow repertoire and inspiration from a diverse set of folk music traditions, including New Orleans second line brass bands, European Klezmer, Balkan and Romani music, and Brazilian Afro Bloc and Frevo traditions, as well as the passion and spirit of Mardi Gras and Carnaval. These bands range in size from four to 40 members and travel long distances at great personal expense to transform public spaces into spontaneous stages.

This year, HONK!TX will perform in parks and streets all over Austin April 3 -5, 2020  We are hoping to raise $7000 through GoFundMe to help us pay park fees, feed and house our musicians, get the word out about the festival, and most of all, help defray some of the travel costs of our visiting bands.  This year, we're hoping to host two bands from Central and South America, and we're super excited about the lineup we are planning!
