Hong's spinal cord injury

On Sunday April 14, our mom (Hong) fell down a set of stairs in Paris and is currently paralyzed from the neck down. Hong was born and raised in Vietnam surrounded by French culture and had always dreamed of seeing Paris. After leaving Vietnam with her daughter to seek a better life, they spent several years in the Bidong Island refugee camp. While in the United States, Hong worked tirelessly to raise a  family (two daughters, Cuc and Stephanie) with her husband, and was looking forward to spending more time with her grandson. As a birthday gift, her family decided to grant her wish and take her to Paris. Tragically, her childhood dream of seeing Paris has become more of a nightmare.

Hong is currently in the ICU in a Paris hospital facing a long hospitalization, possibly months. Once she is stable, Hong will need to be flown back in an air ambulance to the United States. Hong is also facing months of intense physical therapy and she may never regain function below her neck.

Hong’s friends and family know her as kind, gentle, and loving person that is always willing to help others. Anything you can donate, no matter how small, to help her in her recovery is very welcome. She does not have good medical insurance and donations will go towards flying her safely back to the US (her insurance will not cover). Anything left over will go towards her medical bills and physical therapy, as she will not be able to return to her job as a manicurist.

Our mother’s hope is to be able to hug her grandson, Logan again. With your help, we are hoping to make that dream possible for her.
