Honey from Kenya

Honey From Kenya

Honey production is significant to the global food chain as it promotes the growth of the honeybee population which is an important part of plant pollination and successful agriculture.  Due to pesticides and other reasons the bee populations in some countries, such as the US, have been decimated.  With its position on the equator and plenty of rainfall/water, Kenya is especially well suited for year-round honey production achieving up to 3 harvests per year with the right hives!

It is expected that Honey from Kenya will ultimately impact hundreds of Kenyan's lives.

Rosemary Moki is Kenyan-born but received a college education in the US.  She returned to Kenya with a strong desire to help her native countrymen and women to flourish in a world where poverty has been the accepted norm.  The intent of the Honey from Kenya campaign is to position Rosemary as an active member and part of the oversight team of Kitui Apiary, which means being an active participant in the production of honey from Kenya.  Samuel Mwangangi (Kitui Apiaries), Rosemary Moki, and Mark Baldwin are launching this campaign.

Kitui Apiary is a Community Based Organization (CBO) operating in eastern Kenya approximately 180 km east of Nairobi, Kenya.    Kitui Apiaries will be organizing beekeepers in Kenya with the objective of producing honey for export to the US.  Kitui Apiaries also plans to organize other similar CBO's by securing and managing the equipment needed to process and package the honey for export.

Rosemary Moki, a trusted friend and colleague to all parties, will be an active member of the CBO as well as a part of the management team and US liaison.

(A few members of Kitui Apiary. In case you are wondering Rosemary is in the middle.)

Other members of the Kitui Apiary management committee include:

Dr. Musyimi Mbathi, a lecturer with the University of Nairobi and             the  current chairperson of Kitui Municipality Board,

Joel Masobo, a leading bee researcher and senior finance officer at           Egerton University,

Treasurer, Mary Mbandi, the Vice Chairperson of Kitui Municipality         Board,

Secretary, Samuel Mwangangi a Master of Business Administration         graduate of the University of Nairobi, who holds a Bachelor of                     Commerce-Accounting Option.

Each member of the management team will have a vested interest, through hive ownership, in the well-being of the CBO, Kitui Apiary.  The management team along with other hired government resources will be responsible for managing the equipment needed to gather, process and package the honey.  It is expected that within a year 6 additional beekeeping CBO's  will align with Kitui Apiary for their processing capabilities with the goal of producing a total annual exportable volume of honey approaching 180 tons beginning with a 60 ton shipment by February 2021.

Mark Baldwin will develop the US market for the honey.

Objectives of the Campaign is to helping Rosemary secure the equipment, etc needed to qualify as an active participant, funding the necessary hives, housing, bees and other items needed.
