This story is reported by NBC news:https://www.nbcbayarea.com/investigations/homeowner-rents-out-room-during-covid-now-she-might-lose-her-house/2379151/
I am Alex Yang.  My mom is a single mother with two children who lives in San Mateo.  To help pay the mortgage,  she rented the master bedroom out. When I came back from UCB, my family was traumatized and suffering especially my 11 years old sister. The tenant stopped paying rent since January 2020 before COVID-19 hit.  The tenant intentionally damaged our house while at the same time she asked us to pay her a large sum of money.  She also threatened and harassed my family including my 11 years old sister. I feel this tenant filed a restraining order against my sister, my father and myself for no reason, other than to put pressure on us to pay her a lot of money in order for her to leave our house. Meanwhile my sister had to miss school, go to court without a lawyer,  temporarily moved to another home for her safety and seek psychological medical attention. The reason my sister temporarily moved to another home was because the tenant scared my sister when she pointed a sharp subject at her. If I was not present at the time, I can only imagine what would have happen to my sister. Currently, my mother and my sister and myself are seeking therapy in order to overcome the trauma we experienced with this tenant.  I never would have foreseen our family being forced out of our own home in order to feel safe when a home is often somewhere you go to in order to feel safe.  My mother and my sister stayed in a small room while I spent countless night sleeping in the car because the space was limited in the small room that my mother could barely afford to rent.
We hired a lawyer to get the tenant out, and my mother is now in debt for over 20,000 dollar in attorneys fees alone. The tenant recently moved out and last night my family moved back to the house only to find the house is more damaged before we moved to the temporary house. We need financial help in order to pay our current attorney and hopefully to legally pursue having this tenant to pay for her conduct and action.  We will also need financial help to fix our house because  the house is deeply damaged.  WE WANT JUSTICE! and can’t let this happen to OTHER FAMILYS. Right now I have to take my sister to her therapy appointment but I will provide more information on social media in the near future. I greatfully thank and appreciate the general public for their sympathy and support.
I would like to express our gratitude to all people out there who helped and supported us. Thank you to ;
David Melchner, Cary Kletter, Jenny,  Quan He, Daniel, Jeniffer, Michael and anyone else we may left out. We really appreciate all the help from people listed above to my family. And all the people who is willing to help us.
Human is still wonderful.
