Support Grandparents Restaurant Forced to Close

My Grand father, Eddie VanRiper, Grandmother, Caroline VanRiper and Great Grandmother, (Nanny) Tressa DiChairo opened a restaurant called Our Place Cafe. This was always his dream and after he retired from being a Super in a Brooklyn building his whole career, they went for it. In the summertime, I went there in the mornings with my mom to open, take the bread in, turn the grills on and I cooked breakfast until my grandfather came in. One of my favorite memories is just sitting on buckets in the back room peeling potatoes with my grandfather for hours. My brother was the dishwasher and my sisters were both waitresses on the weekends.  The restaurant was always busy. They were doing great. From what I understand, some shady things went down with some of the people helping to run it and before he could knew it, he had to sell. It’s now an apartment building.
I grew up cooking with my Nanny in the late 80’s, early 90’s. My brother, sisters and I were there Mon-Fri after school while my mom worked 2 jobs to raise us. She’d make us pizza from scratch, pasta, meatballs.... anything and everything. All the holidays we’re celebrated at her house and so was Sunday dinner. She was still plucking her own chickens when I was a kid. She passed away a couple years ago at 106, in her own house. No ailments. Just old age. God bless her. My Grandfather and Grandmother passed way in 1999.
My mother cooks just like her and I cook just like her. It’s work. Fresh homemade food isn’t easy... but it’s the best tasting food you can eat and I’d like to walk in my Grandparents and Great Grandparents footsteps and do what was stolen from them before they passed away. I know what I’m asking for is a lot, but I have a career, 2 kids and a fiancé to look after. I can’t just quit my job and do this with no capital and take on a venture this big. Just like my grandfather, this is a huge dream of mine. If it didn’t get taken from him it would still be in our family til this day and it’s all we would have had to remember him by. This isn’t your typical food. It’s make made with the heart and the hands.  If I don’t make enough to do anything regarding a food establishment, all donations will be returned. I’ve tried to get loans. Every bank I’ve talked to said they don’t do restaurant loans because the business is to risky. I’ll keep track of all donations and anyone who donates will receive a free meal if they come in.

I do all this now. Check out @chefvittorioelli and @thevingellifather on Instagram.

I wish you all the best and Happy Holidays.
