Homeless to home builders

Hello, my name is stephen page. Homelessness has always been close to my heart and for the last few years I have been thinking how we could all help them. Yes there is charity’s to help them get food, and we give them money when we walk past. But how much is that actually helping them? The answer is, it’s not.

What they really need is help getting work, somewhere to live and some stability in their life. So they can actually live again and not just exist.

I came up with an idea, which will help homelessness by giving them work experience, teaching them a trade, giving them a temporary address so they can start applying for work and help them get a job after. All while giving them the means to instantly earn the money to survive till they are trained And manage to get a proper job in the building trade.

I know I have put my goal as £50000, but I will also be putting £20000 of my own money in to start it. The goal isn’t what I would necessarily need to actually fund my idea.  But the more money we manage to pull together the more people we could help faster with the service. And to be honest, im looking more for people who can help make this possible, as I don’t have a massive amount of knowledge in charity’s or dealing with the council. So help would be just as beneficial as money.

so my idea was to try to get help from the council, to take derelict buildings and teach homeless people to renovate them into cheap housing. I’m a builder who has a lot of experience in most trades in the building industry, so a lot of the training I could give them myself. My plan was to get parts of the building liveable and use caravans, so the homeless people can use it as a temporary address, so the whole time they are training, they can also look and apply for jobs. They wouldn’t have to pay anything to stay there while they are training/helping renovate. They would be paid so they can afford to livewhile training, and they would only have to start paying to stay they, when we help them find a job afterwards.

Homeless people don’t just need money for food or a place to stay for the night. A lot of them don’t like to just take hand outs either. What they need is means of getting their foot in the door to start a career, and some motivation to help make the most of their lives.

Yes money will help me make this all possible, but at the same time, people who could help with the following, could help just as much without giving a penny;
.someone who has contacts in the council, or who could help us purchase the derelict properties.
. Someone which contacts in homeless shelters, so we could possibly work together. So we don’t need to worry about somewhere for them to stay while we are renovating a training them.

Anyone who has any questions, or would like to get involved and help out, please feel free to send me an email, on [email redacted]. That’s probably the best way to get in contact with me at the moment.

If you read this all the way though, thank you! And if you want to donate and or help in anyway, You deserve even more of a thanks. Even if you think you could help in a way which I haven’t asked but you can see I might need,  please feel free to ask.

thanks so much,
stephen
