Mobile Homeless Shower and Laundry Project

The Mobile Homeless Shower/Laundry project is a build happening to provide

street level showers and laundry opportunities to our Champaign/Urbana homeless population living rough on the street, not living in shelters.

Our initial fundraiser brought in $2,588 thru GoFundMe and another $2,063 in direct donations, for a total to date of $4,651. Utilizing some of those funds we located the perfect 8'x18' flatbed trailer for the mobile shower build. The trailer sets on two 6,000 pound axles, perfect to support and transport the weight of 275 gallons of water that weigh about 2,200 pounds.

The cost of the trailer, new title, and plates was $2,490.

Recently we invested another $600 into replacing all the old deck boards with new pressure treated decking.

Our next build dates included putting down the sub floor, framing up, and sheathing all the partition walls to create the two private shower rooms:

At the front of the trailer two private 3'-9" x 7'-6" spaces for showers and a sink/mirror.

In the middle a 6'-0" x 7'-6" area to store the water tanks, pumps, and water heaters

Mounted over the 6000 pound dual axles, 2-275 gallon IBC water tanks.

At the back a 3'-6" x 7'-6" area for the phase 2 washers/dryers.

The space at the rear of the trailer will house space for 2 sets of portable washer/dryer units, and additional storage for towels, wash cloths, scrubs to wear while doing laundry/showering.

We have raised the funds that were needed to purchase the trailer we have, and the cost of materials to replace the deck, install the new subfloor and frame up the walls and roof structure.
