<div>My name's Dylan, my family is broken up and largely without resources, and I'm diagnosed with moderate Scoliosis &amp; and a degenerate joint (neck) / pinched nerve. I'm in the process of getting proper degenerative disc disease and Scheuermans disease diagnoses and treatment (I'm now on gabapentin for cramps and nerve issues) I also had pectus excavatum and had a steel bar in my sternum up until May of this year.

<div>This coming March / April will be 3 years since homelessness became a permanent / semi permanent reality for me. I've been sleeping on the streets at varying stretches (days weeks and months at a stretch) ever since. I typically only get indoors for a week or less before being back out on the street. I've refused shelter due to their policies regarding violence and thievery in their facilities.. you'll get kicked out if you take your things back by force, they won't help you get them back, and after a certain period they aren't in any way responsible for safe keeping but they don't allow you to keep your stuff close to where you stay or where you can monitor it. There's also very little noise management due to most shelter residents being up and active at night, which altogether makes for an even more draining environment. They will make blanket promises about housing and patience but all shelters are different and there's no telling what will happen while you are 'waiting'.

<div>I'm currently in physical therapy and visiting the chiropractor to address the back issues. I've been doing personal routines daily to improve my alignment and health however I barely made headway until after the surgery. I've dealt with injury after injury on the streets from having my foot crushed by a pickup truck to being cracked across the face with a violin case and getting stitches.

<div>I've been evaluated by episcopal community services twice in two years with no change in score and am currently in the process of applying for administrative review so that I can be considered for housing services.

<div>I'm a recipient of GA ($100 cash assistance for the homeless in SF) and SNAP. I'm also currently awaiting determination from the SSI office for SSI and SSDI.

<div>I haven't been able to work practically since early 2020. The pinched nerve in my neck gets agitated by the large majority of activities beyond basic yoga and basic walking and functions.

<div>Im also doing very light daily calisthenics to build up and build back muscle to help my body line up my spine and heal.

<div>Thanks again to all the donors who've chipped in so graciously. This GoFundMe generated ~7,000 dollars in the first 12 months and put me indoors for about 4 &amp; 1/2 months out of that 12. I was also indoors twice without having to pay any kind of rent and while they were temporary experiences I'm grateful especially for having had a place to stay after surgery when the state / city didn't offer me anything appropriate in my area.
