Homeless Author Completing Memoir

Donation protected
The Homeless Street Massacres explores how I went from being a prep-school and college educated man to prison and a life on the streets. It chronicles my personal experiences with homelessness in three major cities, follows my attempts to access social services that promise to "treat" homelessness, defines the struggle to maintain basic human dignity in a society that prejudges homeless persons and, perhaps most importantly, invites the reader to know actual, three-dimensional, fully realized human beings instead of resting in the luxury that caricatures and archetypes of homelessness allow us.

Proceeds from donations will be used for sustainable, mobile living (a r.v. or conversion van) that gets me out of the elements and affords me the privacy needed to finish my manuscript, a laptop (I am currently using a flash drive to save my work), and a phone in order to be in communication with potential publishers. Additionally, your donation will help provide the basic needs all humans require, but that the homeless spend the bulk of their time trying to obtain with varying degrees of success: food, toiletries, clothing.

This work has been a labor of love for over two years and has gone through many revisions as papers and drafts have been lost or stolen or other circumstances forced its temporary suspension. My goal with this campaign is to get a structure in place as quickly as possible in order to put myself on a "level playing field" with writers who don't experience the same barriers to producing their work. My greatest hope is to not only achieve financial independence for myself through my writing, but to be able to benefit others on the streets who, for one reason or another, have had a lack of success with the current spectrum of social services available today. I am specifically looking into establishing a grant or "scholarship" of some sort with a portion of the proceeds from book sales. Thank you very much for your time and interest.
