Homeless and Rough Sleeper Crisis

The numbers of rough sleepers are increasing, so far we have managed to rise to the task of providing life saving kit along with food and provisions right across the city of Brighton and other parts of Sussex. The latest official numbers show around an 130% increase in Rough Sleeping and more than double the numbers managing to get into some sort of temp or emergency accommodation where homeless often struggle because of the lack of normal household items, we are providing these essential items as part of our remit. These items sometimes are as simple as plates and cutlery but sometimes we provide microwaves, radios and even TV's which encourage the clients to spend more time in their rooms making it easier to engage with services and keeping them away from the dangers on the streets. We also supply food drops giving them a start till their benefits catch up.
New shelters alongside the established ones are helping more this year than ever but they still for whatever reason between them only cover less than half of the rough sleepers, we are servicing the rest approx 120. On top we are providing a weekly full meal alongside clothing and provisions to the many who for whatever reason will not engage with the more established services.
Our commitment to working towards a solution for homelessness could not be more evident as is our ability to provide a free and unrestricted service to some of the hardest or most vulnerable in the city, we turn no one away.
We would formally like to request consideration for a funding grant from either the Homeless Support Funds or/and Prevention of Homeless Funds. An award would see us safely through to the end of winter period and we have estimated the increase in extra provisions will leave us having to find approx £9400 to cover running costs till then. Our volunteers are all donating themeselves just to keep the charity running, no one receives wages in fact most are paying to work. We are a small charity fighting the biggest crisis in UK right now.
