William Harvey - Success Story

Help Find a Home for William Harvey

William Harvey moved from Windsor, NS, to Kentville, NS on January 30th, 2015. His search for wheelchair accessible housing has led to homelessness and sleeping on the streets in Kentville.

Ten years ago, William Harvey lost his leg in a hit and run accident in Bayers Lake, Nova Scotia. Homelessness and being confined to a wheelchair has not dampened his spirits, though. He says, "Your mood is a decision you make every morning".

With plans of becoming an addictions outreach worker, William will attend Nova Scotia Community College (Kingstec) in the fall to study Human Services.

Since his story was first released, February 23, kind Kentville area residents have stepped up and provided housing through the weekend. This is a temporary solution.

William Harvey has a good-paying job. He can afford a good apartment somewhere near his workplace in Kentville’s Industrial Park.

The problem is, he can’t find one.

Community Services is working to expand accessible housing options through Housing Nova Scotia, but it can not happen fast enough for William.

Funds raised through this initiative would help "sponsor" a local landlord. One who would be willing to provide long term housing for William or another disabled person, but does not have a wheelchair accessible apartment.

Your donations would be used to  purchase construction materials to build ramps, widen doors, shower and bath accommodations.

Gofundme retains 5% of monies raised. They process their payments using VISA and Mastercad via WePay.   Taylor Design & PrePress Inc. (a NS Limited Company, Registry ID: 3233524 ) will collect monies on William's behalf. Our accountant, Jamie Ernst will provide full disclosure.

There are many ways to help:
