Home of Hope for Girls sponsored by TRE

Donation protected

TRE has always supported charities and over the years raised a huge amount of money. This Spring we are teaming up with Rotary to support one of the initiatives of the current president of  Rotary International, Girl Empowerment.

Girl Empowerment
can take many forms and we have chosen to support an amazing organisation in South Africa that saves young girls from being groomed and trafficked into prostitution and instead gives them a home and supports their education.

The Home of Hope for Girls
could not be more aptly named. Created in Johannesburg twenty one years ago by an amazing woman, Khanyi Motsa, who gave up her business to take in orphaned girls, as young as thirteen, being sold from the rural areas of Johannesburg into urban prostitution, the home currently looks after eighty girls in two locations and since that first young girl was saved by Khanyi, The Home of Hope for Girls has saved a staggering twelve thousand girls from the streets. Many of these girls were pregnant or had serious health issues. They were not forced to abort their pregnancies but went on to raise their children in the home and see them educated like themselves. Many girls have gone on to further education at high schools and universities and some of them are part of the outreach services saving more girls from life on the streets.

Our objective is to raise a modest twenty five thousand euros to purchase a second hand Mercedes coach to take the girls to and from school on a daily basis. They cannot walk unchaperoned as it is too dangerous and a coach will allow them to travel in safety and comfort.

If we are blessed with a surplus this will go towards the running of the home which survives thanks to the donations of local businesses and individuals. It has never had any state support and currently has to find about fifteen thousand euros every month to support the eighty girls in residence. The home also contributes towards their education which is not free.
