Home is where Susan's heart is.
My name is Joan and my gorgeous sister and best friend Susan had a horrendous accident on May 29th 2020 in her home and was
pronounced dead the next day. It was a flicker in her pupil that prompted immediate life-saving surgery.
After a 5 hour operation, Susan went to ICU and survived.
The recovery she has made to date is far more than the doctors expected in fact they say it's a miracle she is alive. Initially,
she was non-verbal but she has now relearned how to speak again. She is coming to the end of a short period in Dun Laoghaire
Rehabilitation Centre where she has made incredible progress. She now faces returning to a nursing home unless we can somehow
adapt her home.
Susan had achieved her dream of owning her own home a few years ago. It's a small terraced council house. It is situated in the fantastic
community of Edenmore Dublin 13 that Susan loves.
The first word that she spoke was “Home” and it's all she asks of us…is to take her back home.

Even though we are a small family, Susan has a huge network of friends who want to help her on this journey, even the
Kilbarrick Firefighters who found her at home on that day, still, ask after her.
How do we get Susan's home adapted for her to live an independent life there?

We hope to raise enough money to adapt Susan's home as quickly as possible to give her the dignity to live her life in her own home.
Our goal is to raise euro 130,000 to fully adapt her home to be wheelchair accessible for her to be as independent as possible, including a ground floor extension with a wheelchair-accessible bedroom and a bathroom.
