Merary lives on the island of Ometepe in Nicaragua. As a single mother, she does everything she can to make ends meet but it just isn't quite enough to build a suitable home for her family. Her two boys, Gustavo and Josue, are unable to live with her so they live in an orphanage just outside of town. Like so many Nicaraguans she owns a parcel of land but access to the means she needs to build a proper home is far out of reach. (see pictures below)
We at Grow Nicaragua believe having a stable, physical, home is an essential building block for overcoming the cycle of generational poverty. We have committed to working with the CICRIN orphanage in order to reunite children with their families when the circumstances are right and the family structure healthy enough to sustain it. In fact, we've been doing it for years (see some pictures below). The children will continue to receive education and food from the orphanage but will be able to return home, to their mother, every night!
Construction will begin July 3rd. Will you help us make this happen? Whether you can give $25 or $2,500 your gift will go to reuniting a family in need. They will be one step closer to breaking that cycle of generational poverty!
