Please Help Andrew and John Stay in Their Home
I'm asking for your help with the down payment of a house for two terminally ill young men, my friends Andrew and John, to be able to stay in their home. It would mean the world to these young men and their parents to be able to stay in the house they've called home for the last four years!

After many years driving back and forth from East Texas to Dallas to receive the needed medical care they needed, Andrew and John's health began to significantly deteriorate in 2014 which made it essential to be closer to their teams of specialists. So, the family moved to North Dallas.
They found the perfect home in a mature neighborhood that is quiet and peaceful, with room for two young adult men in power wheelchairs and all their needs, as well as space to load and unload the full-size van, and an office for mom to be able to spend more time close to the guys.
Andrew and John have their own rooms for privacy and personal space, so they can rest and have some independence. And, the living room is large enough for the family to watch movies and spend time together with Andrew and John both in their chairs.
It’s a rental property, and the owners have decided to sell the house.
With the family recovering from several years of financial hardship due to circumstances beyond their control (loss of employment, caregiver issues, two car accidents because of other drivers, an extended hospital stay for each boy, and loss of revenue), they don’t have the funds for a down payment. Several wonderful people had stepped forward, but there is still a distance to go.
Andrew and John were diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at age 8 and 2. DMD is caused by an absence of dystrophin, a protein that helps keep muscle cells intact. As a result, all the muscles body break down over time. At age 26 and 19, Andrew and John have both been in wheelchairs for over ten years and have significant muscle loss throughout their bodies including their lungs and hearts.
Andrew’s heart function has declined to a critical level now. As the medications are no longer working, the only option available that might extend his life is a risky surgery to install a pump that would be required him to be connected to an electrical outlet 24 hours a day to sustain his life. This surgery has only been performed a handful of times with little success.
If he survived the surgery, Andrew would be in the hospital and a rehab facility for a minimum of six months. After much prayer and soul-searching, he has decided to spend the time he has left to be at home with his family, and not be dependent upon a machine to sustain his life. Andrew's quality of life here at the end is what's most important to him.
Andrew and John both suffer from anxiety disorders. John suffers from acute anxiety. To John, their home represents a new beginning as they relocated after mom and step-dad were married in 2014 and began a new life here together as a family. The memories and the sense of security he has attached to this home are integral to his emotional stability. We don’t know how long Andrew will be with us, and the thought of losing Andrew and his home back-to-back is painful for him to try to reconcile.
The home was modified to meet their needs when they moved in. The modifications cost $7,000. Many property owners won't allow the necessary changes to facilitate their wheelchairs and overhead lifts, so if the house can't be purchased, it will take time to find the right place.
