Lin Family Home Destroyed To Fire

Last night (7/24/2017), both my Uncle's and my family lost everything in an apartment fire that completely destroyed our home in Williamsburg. Our families have been living here for the past 30 years and just never thought anything like this could ever happen to us. To say the least, we were absolutely not prepared for any of this to happen at all.
According to the news outlets, the fire started on the second floor of the apartment, and it quickly spread to the third floor where my uncle’s family lived, before reaching the fourth floor where my family lived. The fire continued for approximately an hour and ten minutes before firefighters were finally able to put it out, by which time it was 6:25pm.

I guess I'm just really thankful my family members were all at work during the incident, so none of us suffered any injuries or casualties. My uncle and cousin were in their third floor home at the time but they also suffered no injuries at all as they were able to escape immediately after seeing the smoke. By the time we were allowed back inside later that night, there was nothing left for us to reclaim. Our apartment was buried under fragments of the ceiling which had collapsed. I was only able to reclaim a pair of sneakers which fortunately survived the fire. Everything else had been either damaged or destroyed. Most importantly some family albums, family heirlooms, and some cherished gifts which we will never be able to replace...
At this time, I am asking friends and family for any support they can give to my Uncle's family and mine. We don't like asking others for help usually, and feel uncomfortable doing so, but we are all overwhelmed by this and realize we can't get through this on our own. Unfortunately, we never had Renter’s Insurance and now realize just how important it is. Don't skip on renter's insurance like we did if you are renting property!
As you can see, this cause is extremely important to us. We want to rebuild our home and replace the things we lost. We are deeply devastated by the loss of just about everything. We understand we won't be able to replace everything. Any support you can provide will put us at ease to lessen our financial burden in rebuilding our lives, especially with a temporary place to stay, and basic needs and furniture replacement. We only wish to settle back in our home again soon...
We are currently staying at a hotel, courtesy of the American Red Cross, but moving forward we will be on our own. One thing’s for sure though and that is no one was hurt in the aftermath and we still have each other as a family.
