HOME BIRTH SKILLS for
BIRTH WORKERS OF COLORS
Sunday, January 14, 2018
8AM EST – 10 PM EST
EMERGENCE COMMUNITY ARTS CENTER
Washington DC 20001

On January 14, 2018 Keepers of The Birth, will host an intensive one-day, 14-hour workshop for approximately 25-30 Birth Workers of Colors*. Although prior labor support training would be helpful for this workshop, it is not mandatory. Because Keepers of the Birth is an intentionally “woke community” of birth workers we will be teaching through a social, culturally congruent, and reproductive justice lens.  This workshop is open to Birth Workers of Colors which, for this event, includes those of African descent; First Nation, Indigenous, Native; Asian; LatinX; and those who identify as LGBTQI.

Our workshop facilitators for the day are experienced in their respective fields and have all agreed to donate their expertise for this cause. The workshop will be both didactic and experiential and will also include a discussion panel and the viewing of a home birth film. The topics will include but are not limited to: strategies and techniques to encourage the progression of labor, birth from a cultural perspective, the use of herbs and acupressure during labor, breastfeeding refresher, doula scope and etiquette at a home birth, assessment of the home birth families’ emotional and psychological need, serving the Queer birthing community, and much more.
