Home and cats

Home and cats fundraiser

I'm hoping to raise funds to enable myself, my husband and our lovely pampurred house cat Samson to remain living in our home of the past 12 years (it's 12 for my husband and me, coming up on 4 for our rescue kitty).  We rent from a private landlord and we were very lucky that the rent stayed the same for years; however now the landlord has notified us that they intend to increase the rent year on year.  We were struggling to make ends meet on a single income before, and we can ill-afford the new rent.  I work for a local authority, and there has been a pay freeze for approximately the past decade, while the cost of living increases year on year.  My husband is unfortunately unable to work due to a disability and I also have a chronic health condition so I'm unable to take a second job.

Where do the cats come in?
I've been in the habit of feeding a number of the stray cats in our neighbourhood for at least the past three years. or four years.  It doesn't cost me a huge amount of money, and it's worth it for the pleasure I get out of hearing them purr when I sit & make a fuss of them.  But with the rent 'hike' from our landlord, this extra cost is one of the few areas of our budget that I can possibly cut out, though I desperately don't want to.

The funds raised would simply be used to make up the difference for our new rent, and to enable me to go on buying cat food to give to Maverick, Domino, 'Other Black Kitty' and little 'Tortie'*.  I also feed the wild birds, but that's not terribly expensive, at a couple of quid for a bag of bird seed every other week.

If our target figure of £1,500 were reached, this would enable us to go on living here for a further 2 & 1/2 years, instead of having to move back home to live with my folks in another town.  Perhaps during that time austerity will be lifted and my salary begin to catch up with the cost of living, somewhat.

Obviously my own cat, Samson,  comes first as we rescued him from a local cat rescue and we're responsible for providing him with a home, four square meals a day, regular vet checkups & vaccinations and all the creature comforts he deserves.  But I also love looking out for those strays, and I'd worry about them terribly if I even thought of stopping feeding them.

With your help, my little family (hubby, Sammy & I) won't have to move & I can keep on playing the role of the local 'crazy cat lady' (and proud of it!)  And words can't express how much that will mean to me.  From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for reading this and considering donating.  Thank you.
