I've been wanting to record my debut album for years. All the songs have been sitting in one of the grey boxes above my desk, ready to go... But somehow, I've just never got round to it. Why? It never seemed like the right time. Other things always came first, like trying to make a living in the performing industry, teaching, getting married, moving house... Then there was the small matter of finding the right person to record and produce the tracks as well as funding the project.
If the past few years have taught me anything it's that life is too short and if you want to do something you just have to do it! So that's what I'm going to try and do. The last few months have been a bit crazy... And I've been a little crazy too, biting the bullet and having the audacity to approach people I barely know to try and make this album happen... And somehow, I seem to have stumbled upon an incredible producer and sound engineer who wants to record the album...
Stuart McCredie has recorded and produced albums for the likes of Texas, The Fratellis and Kelly Clarkson, to name-drop a few. Yeah... I know! I can't believe it either... Apart from being a brilliant engineer and producer, he's got lots of contacts in the industry, so once the tracks are released, he can get them in front of the right people. For some unknown reason, he has agreed to record the tracks for a lot less than his usual rate... The plan is simple. Make this album a huge success, get rich and famous and as a result, be able to pay his normal prices for the next album. Ha! It's that easy, right?!
Some songs can cost around £4,000-£5,000 each to record, mix, produce and master what with studio time, engineer time, paying musicians, mixing, editing, arranging and mastering the tracks... However, he's agreed to record the 9 tracks for an all-in sum of £9,000.
I have managed to save £4,000 which I have put aside for the album and was hoping to crowdfund the remaining £5,000 by promising a free digital download of the album to everyone who contributes. I've got my fingers and toes crossed that there are 600 people out there who want to essentially pre-buy the album for £10.
Anyone contributing £20 or more will also get a signed copy of the CD album.
If by some miracle, I become the next Ed Sheeran, minus the beard and penis, I would love to offer a free ticket to a performance of your choice to everyone donating £30 or more, although this can't be guaranteed!! What I can guarantee is a mention in the CD booklet to say thank you, as well as all of the above.
I will also keep you all updated with lots of sneaky previews and posts of the recording process and give you my undying gratitude forever and ever.
