Danijel braucht ’ne Chance – nicht nur Käsebrote (Kurzfassung) [english version below]

Es gibt Geschichten, die berühren – diese hier ist eine davon.

Wenn du nur 60 Sekunden Zeit hast, dann lies das hier – und vielleicht hilfst du mit, einem echten Kämpfer raus aus der Obdachlosigkeit zu helfen:

Danijel ist obdachlos, drogenabhängig – und einer der herzlichsten, höflichsten und willensstärksten Menschen, die ich je getroffen habe.

Sein größtes Problem: Schulden & keine Papiere.

Sein größter Wunsch: Ein normales Leben.

Ich begleite ihn seit März – durch seine eigene Initiative ist er fest in einem Drogenprogramm, hat inzwischen wieder einen Pass, ein Dach überm Kopf (zumindest temporär) und sogar schon einen neuen Lebenslauf abgegeben.

Was ihm jetzt noch fehlt: Geld, um Schulden bei der Staatsanwaltschaft und Bank zu begleichen – sonst drohen Gefängnis, Rückfall, Hoffnungslosigkeit.

Ich bin Martina – aber hier geht’s nicht um mich, sondern um Danijel.

Danijel ist arbeits- und obdachlos, drogenabhängig – und einfach ein rundum toller Typ mit großem Herz und Willen!

Als wir uns Anfang März spätabends auf der Straße kennen gelernt haben – ich räumte gerade einen Camper aus – fiel mir sofort auf, wie groß seine Dankbarkeit über ein paar simple Käsebrote und das Auffüllen seiner Wasserflasche war. Als ich ihm dann den Camper für die Nacht angeboten hab, konnte er sein Glück kaum fassen.

Papierkram mit Existenzbedeutung

Er erzählte mir dann von seinem größten Problem: er hat keine Papiere mehr. Sein Pass wurde gestohlen, die Verlustanzeige ist ihm abhanden gekommen. Ohne Papiere hat er keine Aussicht auf einen Job. Und bei der kroatischen Botschaft kann er keine neuen Papiere beantragen, weil man dort nur mit Karte zahlen kann und er das Geld dafür sowieso nicht hat. Ein echter Teufelskreis.

Also gingen wir gemeinsam zur Polizei, holten eine neue Verlustanzeige. Danijel – ohne Handy – hat es immer wieder geschafft, mich über Ecken telefonisch zu erreichen, und war zu jeder Verabredung bei unserer Parkbank vor einem Edeka pünktlich zur Stelle wie ein Schweizer Uhrwerk.

Wir schafften es, einen Termin bei der kroatischen Botschaft zu bekommen (Google Translate sei Dank – sie antworten auf E-Mails nur auf Kroatisch). Am vereinbarten Termin war Danijel mal wieder vor der Zeit da und füllte bereits die erforderlichen Formulare aus als ich ankam:

Trotz wackliger Unterlagen und knapper Hoffnung zog Danijel den entscheidenden Joker: Er hatte seine OIB-Nummer (die kroatische Steuer-ID) auswendig im Kopf. Und tatsächlich: Der Antrag auf einen neuen Pass wurde angenommen! In unseren Augen ein echtes Wunder und ein paar Freudenhüpfer wert. Ein paar Wochen später hielt er ihn stolz in den Händen – das musste gefeiert werden.

Diese riesige, unerbittliche Wand

Jetzt kommt der Haken: Danijel hat Schulden. Viele.

Allein bei der Stadtsparkasse Augsburg und der Staatsanwaltschaft München stehen rund 20.000 € im Raum – bei den meisten drohen Ersatzfreiheitsstrafen.

Über Ostern war er bereits für einige Tage in Haft, weil er die Forderungen nicht begleichen konnte – das hat ihn physisch und seelisch mitgenommen und endete in einer Verletzung seiner Hand samt OP, die inzwischen wieder recht gut verheilt ist (in ein paar Wochen muss die Platte wieder raus).

Danijel jammert nie, aber man merkt: Die Last drückt ihn.

Darum bitte ich euch um Unterstützung für ihn – weil vereinte Kräfte so viel mehr bewirken können. Obwohl es ihm nicht an Motivation mangelt, wäre es bestimmt eine enorme Erleichterung, wenn mit eurer Hilfe diese erdrückende Wand an Schulden etwas abgebaut – oder ihr wenigstens ein paar Steine raus geklopft werden können. Jeder noch so kleine Betrag trägt dazu bei und hilft ungemein. Von daher einfach schon mal ein riesges "Vergelt's Gott" und Dankeschön für alles was da hoffentlich kommt!

Das Spendenziel: 20.027,88 €

Ich habe diese Beträge in seinem Namen mit Vollmachten abgefragt und kürzlich die Bestätigungen erhalten.

Das ist nur die halbe Wahrheit – es gibt noch viele weitere offene Rechnungen: Zuzahlungsrechnungen für Krankenhausbehandlung, Krankentransport, weitere Geldbußen beim Amtsgericht München / Stadtkämmerei München (ca. 600 €), bei der AOK (geschätzt: weitere 20.000 €; die Auskunft über den genauen Stand steht noch aus). Aber irgendwo müssen wir anfangen.

Eine Zwischenlösung als Oase

Er hatte einen temporären Platz in einer Notschlafunterkunft, den es nur für drei Monate gibt und er für einen Monat wieder räumen muss, bevor er wieder rein kann. Generell ist die Notschlafunterkunft kein gutes Umfeld, da er dort leider immer wieder mit Drogen in Berührung kommt. Am 15. Mai waren die drei Monate rum und er musste ausziehen. Durch wirklich wunderbare Wendungen konnte ich ihn temporär in einer Wohnung unterbringen, die gerade renoviert wird. Er war derart überwältigt und konnte das alles gar nicht fassen, dass ihm einfach die Tränen kamen.

Durch Hilfen von lieben Menschen konnten wir ihm ein paar Grunddinge wie Essen, Geschirr, Matratze etc. zusammenstellen.

Er ist dort derart aufgeblüht, dass es eine Freude ist: Kochen, Ausruhen, auch tagsüber in die Wohnung gehen – ganz banale Dinge, die ihn wieder Mensch sein lassen.

Er hat es gern ordentlich und liebt es den Tisch schön herzurichten.

Eine Zahnbaustelle namens "Friedhof"

Sein Körper ist stark geschwächt, viele Zähne fehlen und da er letztens sehr starke Zahnschmerzen hatte, waren wir in der Zahnklinik der Uni für eine Bestandsaufnahme und anschließend in der Mund- und Kieferchirurgie. Nächste Woche müssen weitere vier Zähne gezogen werden – langfristig braucht er wohl eine Teilprothese. Er spricht von seinen Zähnen immer humorvoll von einem „Friedhof“.

Was sonst noch so passiert ist bzw. ansteht

• Schon seit längerem ist er in einem Drogenprogramm, wo er zuverlässig jeden Morgen um halb 8 Uhr in eine Klinik geht und Substitute erhält.

• Ich konnte ihm ein gebrauchtes Handy samt Vertrag besorgen. Die 10GB Datenvolumen waren nach so langer Abstinenz von Internet und Sozialen Medien in Null-Komma-nix aufgesaugt. Er hat jetzt wieder Kontakt zu seiner Mutter in Kroatien und seinem Vater in Augsburg – das hat ihn tief berührt.

• Vor ein paar Tagen hat er seinen Lebenslauf abgegeben und hofft auf eine Stelle in einem Restaurant.

• In Kürze muss er wohl nach Split (Kroatien) reisen, um entweder seine dortige Meldung aufzulösen oder einen Personalausweis zu beantragen – wieder eine Hürde, aber auch eine Chance.

Wer ist Danijel eigentlich?

Danijel wurde 1985 in Sarajevo geboren, wuchs bei den Großeltern auf dem Land auf, kam nach dem Krieg mit seiner Mutter nach Kroatien. Er machte seinen Abschluss in Hotelmanagement in Bosnien und arbeitete als Kellner und Rezeptionist – unter anderem in 4-Sterne-Hotels in Kroatien. Früh kam er mit Drogen in Berührung und hat dadurch viel Negatives erlebt. Nach seinem Jobverlust in einer Fabrik in Augsburg (den Drogen geschuldet), rutschte er in die Obdachlosigkeit. Seit 2022 lebt er in München auf der Straße.

Und: Er liebt die Pistazien-Croissants vom Penny.

Ein kleiner Einblick in seinen Charakter

Bei einem unserer Treffen schenkte ihm meine Mutter ein Paket mit selbstgemachtem Essen. Danijel nahm es dankbar mit in die Notschlafstelle – aber am nächsten Tag war es weg.

Warum? Er hatte es vergessen, als er einem Kollegen in Not seinen Schlafsack gab.

There are stories that touch - this is one of them.

Danijel is homeless, addicted to drugs - and one of the warmest, most polite and strong-willed people I've ever met.

His biggest problem: debts & no papers.

His greatest wish: a normal life.

I have been accompanying him since March - through his own initiative he is firmly in a drug programme, now has a passport again, a roof over his head (at least temporarily) and has even handed in a new CV.

What he still needs: money to pay off debts to the public prosecutor's office and the bank - otherwise he faces prison, relapse and hopelessness.

I'm Martina - but this isn't about me, it's about Danijel.

Danijel is unemployed and homeless, a drug addict - and just an all-round great guy with a big heart and will!

When we met on the street late at night at the beginning of March - I was cleaning out a camper - I immediately noticed how grateful he was for a few simple cheese sandwiches and a refill of his water bottle. When I offered him the camper for the night, he could hardly believe his luck.

Paperwork with existential significance

He then told me about his biggest problem: he no longer had any papers. His passport had been stolen. Without papers, he has no chance of getting a job. And he can't apply for new papers at the Croatian embassy because you can only pay by card there and he doesn't have the money anyway. A real vicious circle.

So we went to the police together and got a new loss report. Danijel - without a mobile phone - always managed to reach me by phone and was on time for every appointment at our park bench in front of an Edeka, like Swiss clockwork.

We managed to get an event at the Croatian embassy (thanks to Google Translate - they only reply to emails in Croatian). At the agreed event, Danijel was once again there ahead of time and was already filling out the necessary forms when I arrived.

Despite shaky documents and scarce hope, Danijel pulled the decisive joker: he had his OIB number (the Croatian tax ID) memorised. And indeed: the application for a new passport was accepted! A real miracle in our eyes and worth a few jumps for joy. A few weeks later, he proudly held it in his hands - it was something to celebrate.

This huge, unrelenting wall

Now comes the catch: Danijel has debts. Lots of them.

He owes around €20,000 to the Stadtsparkasse Augsburg savings bank and the Munich public prosecutor's office alone - most of whom are threatened with substitute custodial sentences.

He was already in prison for a few days over Easter because he was unable to pay the debts - this took its toll on him physically and mentally and ended in an injury to his hand, including surgery, which has since healed quite well (the plate has to come out again in a few weeks).

Danijel never complains, but you can tell that the burden is weighing him down.

That's why I'm asking you to support him - because joining forces can achieve so much more. Although he is not lacking in motivation, it would certainly be an enormous relief if, with your help, this crushing wall of debt could be broken down a little - or at least knocked out a few bricks. Any amount, however small, contributes to this and helps immensely. Therefore, a huge ‘Thank you’ for everything that will hopefully come!

I requested these amounts on his behalf with powers of attorney and recently received the confirmations.

This is only half the truth - there are many more outstanding bills: Co-payment bills for hospital treatment, patient transport, further fines at the Munich Local Court / Munich City Council (approx. €600), at the AOK (estimated: a further €20,000; information on the exact status is still pending). But we have to start somewhere.

An interim solution as an oasis

He had a temporary place in emergency sleeping accommodation, which is only available for three months and he has to vacate for a month before he can go back in. In general, the emergency sleeping accommodation is not a good environment, as he unfortunately comes into contact with drugs there time and again. On 15 May, the three months were up and he had to move out. Through some really wonderful twists and turns, I was able to find him temporary accommodation in a flat that is currently being renovated. He was so overwhelmed and couldn't believe it all that he just started crying.

With the help of some kind people, we were able to put together a few basic things for him, such as food, crockery, a mattress and so on.

He has blossomed so much there that it is a joy: cooking, resting, going into the flat during the day - very mundane things that allow him to be human again. He likes things to be neat and tidy and loves setting the table nicely.

A dental construction site called ‘cemetery’

His body is severely weakened, many teeth are missing and as he recently had very bad toothache, we went to the dental clinic at the university for an assessment and then to the oral and maxillofacial surgery. Another four teeth have to be extracted next week - in the long term he will probably need a partial denture. He always refers to his teeth humorously as a ‘graveyard’.

What else has happened or is coming up

He has been on a drug programme for some time now, where he reliably goes to a clinic every morning at half past seven and receives substitutes.
I was able to get him a second-hand mobile phone with a contract. After such a long period of abstinence from the internet and social media, the 10GB data volume was used up in no time at all. He is now back in contact with his mum in Croatia and his dad in Augsburg - that has touched him deeply.
He handed in his CV a few days ago and is hoping for a job in a restaurant.
He will soon have to travel to Split (Croatia) to either cancel his registration there or apply for an identity card - another hurdle, but also an opportunity.

Who is Danijel actually?

Danijel was born in Sarajevo in 1985, grew up with his grandparents in the countryside and came to Croatia with his mother after the war. He graduated in hotel management in Bosnia and worked as a waiter and receptionist - including in 4-star hotels in Croatia. He came into contact with drugs early on and experienced a lot of negative things as a result. After losing his job in a factory in Augsburg (due to the drugs), he slipped into homelessness. He has been living on the streets of Munich since 2022.

And: he loves pistachio croissants from Penny.

A little insight into his character

At one of our meetings, my mum gave him a parcel of home-made food. Danijel gratefully took it to the emergency shelter - but the next day it was gone.

Why? He had forgotten it when he gave his sleeping bag to a colleague in need.
