Bobbi Capps Fights Cervical Cancer

Hello! My dear friend Bobbi Capps has recently been diagnosed with cervical cancer. She is the young age of 31, with a beautiful son and loving husband. One of the most ambitious, talented and smartest women I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. Look up “ideal strong WOMAN”, there’s her photo.
A little bit about Bobbi…
Bobbi is a senior at MSU Denver studying Organizational Communication, Nutrition and Psychology. She plans to graduate in May of 2015 with her BA.
After graduating she plans to attend graduate school to earn her Masters and PhD in Organizational Psychology. Bobbi is very involved on campus serving as the President of the Golden Key International Honour Society and two other student organizations. She also works as the Associate Vice President of Organizational Development for the Student Government Assembly.
She is married to Mason Capps, an amazing teacher, cook, husband and father. She has a 5 year old son, Rylan, who attends preschool full time. Rylan is the light of their lives; he is smart, beautiful, funny, kind, stubborn, and wise beyond his years.
Bobbi’s story with Cancer so far…
“Yep. That’s right. Cancer.
Recently I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. It was a scary and totally surprising diagnosis. We weren’t expecting it.
I only had one irregular pap smear. When they took the biopsy they told me not to worry, it wouldn’t be cancer. Friends who had been in similar situations said the same thing; don’t worry, it’s not going to be cancer.
But it is. It sucks. But it’s true.
I will most likely need a radical hysterectomy, most likely in the second week of December. A radical hysterectomy will include removing the fallopian tubes, the uterus, the cervix, the top 1-2 cm of vagina and about 2 cm of tissue surrounding each of these pieces. The doctor is hopeful I will be able to keep my ovaries as that would be much healthier for me and prevent me from going into very early menopause.
We are hopeful this will be a curative procedure however I may need 1-2 sessions of chemo radiation depending on my PET scan results. Chances of recurrence are very small, this should cure me.
I am making this blog so that you, my friends and family, can stay up to date on how things are progressing and how you can help.

Bobbi is a student employee at MSU Denver and doesn’t make much. She is paid hourly so they will be missing out on some money during the weeks she is recovering. Mason is working at a local restaurant about 30 hours a week. He is trying desperately to get a teaching job to no avail. They were barely making enough money to survive before all of this.
In addition to my diagnosis, Bobbi is in a walking boot because she fell and severed a tendon in her ankle and partially detached one of the ligaments from the bone making it difficult for her to get around.
About a month ago Mason fell and strained his MCL and begins physical therapy next week. This has made it difficult for him to work for the last few weeks and had to miss several days of work. This was a huge set back for them and all the savings they had are gone. His employer has not put him back up to full time hours since his injury resulting in even more lost earnings.
Rylan also begins occupational therapy next week to help with some vision problems he has been experiencing for the last several months. Then in December Rylan will have to undergo his second oral surgery to fight an infection.
It has been one thing after another for the last few months. Any one of these things, maybe even two, they could have dealt with. But all of it together has become so overwhelming mentally, emotionally, financially, even physically.
She continues to stay positive and strong! Medical bills will continue the strain on the family and Bobbi. Please donate what you can to help Bobbi and her family get through these hard times.
