Help Adam Miller,Police & USAF Vet

Adam Miller, my son, was injured over a year ago while patrolling on duty for the Peoria Police Department.  An unlicensed driver ran a red light and changed this young warrior’s life forever (News release of the accident:  http://www.azcentral.com/community/peoria/articles/20131120peoria-police-officer-crash-abrk.html).  The accident has left Adam with chronic spinal injuries which, according to multiple doctors, have left him unable to perform the duties required of a Patrol Officer.  After the accident, Adam returned to work with the Peoria Police Department performing light office duties, determined to serve his community while he recovered.  After his injuries and claims were wrongfully denied by Peoria’s contracted insurance company (News Release:  http://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/peoria/2014/08/20/peoria-police-insurance/14338371/), the Chief of Police irresponsibly ordered Officer Adam Miller to return to full Patrol Duty.  Adam felt that considering his injuries, he would be unable to protect the citizens of Peoria or himself while properly using escalation of force.  He submitted multiple requests to remain on light office duty while he healed, where he would still provide vital services to the citizens he had protected for almost a decade.  Those requests were denied by the Chief of Police.  Adam was forced to return to the field, unable to adequately defend himself against potential criminals, or take sick/administrative leave.  He quickly exhausted all of his sick leave, and then relied on sick leave donated by his fellow Police Officers that were forced to watch one of their brothers face the unthinkable.  Eventually, refusing to irresponsibly place his community and himself in unnecessary danger, Adam was simple placed on Administrative leave without pay.

Adam is currently engaged in a legal battle to return to work and stand amongst his fellow officers to protect the City that has all but abandoned him.  With the dispute unlikely to reach resolution until the middle of 2015, Adam, his wife Monee, and his three children have been left without the income of their primary provider.  In the meantime, Monee has withdrawn all of her retirement accounts to keep their family going, but with Christmas around the corner, I have started this site in an effort to help.

Adam is a US Air Force Combat Veteran and served overseas in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM.  After serving 6 long years with a relentless deployment schedule, Adam left the military with an Honorable Discharge and joined the Peoria Police Department where he dedicated his life to his local community for almost nine years.  Most importantly, Adam is a good man, an incredible Husband and Father, and a dedicated protector/warrior.  Unfortunately, after he was injured on duty, the city of Peoria has turned their back on this Veteran warrior.  The Mayor of Peoria and the Chief of Police should be ashamed of this situation, and their citizens should hold them accountable.  Hopefully justice will prevail, and Adam will be allowed to return to his job, performing light office duties until he has healed, but in the meantime any support you can give would be gratefully appreciated.  Thank you very much for your time and your support!
