Hear the Test Scores Rise

I am a 6th grade math teacher at Robert Gray Middle School in Portland, Oregon. Please help me purchase an Extron VoiceLift Microphone system for my classroom.

Over the summer, a friend of mine made me compete in a home-made obstacle course and the prize was a ticket to last night's Justin Timberlake 20/20 concert. Even though I looked, smelled, and sounded like a fool, I was victorious and what a show it was! The coolest part of the show was when Timberlake's stage moved across the Moda Center, giving every person a "front row seat." In the classroom, we do similar things. Strong teachers move around the classroom (kinesthetic learners especially enjoy this) and they also have the students move (blood is flowing and the excitement for learning increases). Since the classroom does not have surround sound there are many instances in which students cannot hear the directions, are unable to reflect on fellow students' comments, or are simply tuned out of the lesson. Fortunately for us, there is a solution for this and it is called voice amplification.

I had the luxury of using this technology at previous schools and the increase in student engagement and achievement was phenomenal. Not only could I give clearer directions, with the back of the class fully tuned in, but students also loved using the microphone to share their work. I noticed significant changes in self-esteem and overall confidence. Implementing this voice amplification system has been proven to result in significant gains in student achievement.

15% Higher scores on the Stanford Achievement Test
21% Higher scores on Oregon’s Statewide Assessment

My neighborhood elementary school in PPS has raised money to set up their entire teaching staff with this exciting technology. With your donation, we could be the first of many classrooms at Gray to do the same. Beth Madison, our principal, also firmly believes in the power of voice amplification and has promised to donate. Please join her - every donation is a step towards clearer instruction and strong student voice!
