PLEASE HELP SAVE A PRISTINE MOUNTAIN AREA IN BROOME COUNTY, NY FROM DESTRUCTION BY AN IRRESPONSIBLE WIND ENERGY DEVELOPMENT.
The urgent UN report about the mass extinction of species agrees: The habitat destruction alone is not worth it! Double digits of Golden Eagles are projected to be slayed by a model from USF&W. Not to mention the economic disaster it will be for our community or the health risks it imposes from abandoning WHO standards and exposing local residents to excessive noise and unknown infra-sound and low-frequency ranges.
Government Funds have already been abused to allow an incomplete, shoddy plan to go through the permitting phase with barely a critical evaluation or due diligence. Calpine, the wind developer, has never shown any proof that this project will help reduce CO2 emissions in any meaningful way, because it doesn’t.
The residents and landowners in the project area have been deliberately kept in the dark and out of the discussions until all plans were ready for approval. This project and the way it’s been conducted is a gross injustice. Calpine has been secretively dealing with a Town Board hungry for money, intimidating everybody by repeating incessantly that ‘The State wants this’, so it is futile to protest and ask critical questions.
WE DON’T BUY IT!! - BUT WE NEED MONEY TO PROVE IT AND TO DEFEND OUR RIGHTS.
We need an independent, comprehensive Environmental Impact Study. We need to talk about the ‘inconvenient truth’ of the noise and infra-sound these massive turbines produce and agree on protective setbacks to avoid putting our health at risk. We shall NOT be made guinea pigs to host almost 700 feet tall turbines just 1500 feet away from our homes. Calpine has NO experience building these and NO SAFETY DATA. Calpine is the world’s largest energy producer from natural gas and they don’t need these turbines to be efficient because they’ll get tax credits just for building them, while they’ll back up the grid with their gas when the wind doesn’t blow. It’s all a dirty money grab. This will NOT save the planet from global warming, or make us less dependent of fossil fuel – it will only hurt an already poor community by taking away the last thing they have going for them: unspoiled nature all around.
Your generous contributions will go towards legal aid and experts to provide independent studies to pinpoint the many problems with this plan. THANK YOU for helping us preserve this unique ‘land between the rivers’, for saving the eagles and keeping our homes out of the danger zone!
