Dear Friends,

I'm leaving to embark on the most challenging adventure of my life, and I need your help.

I'm heading off this weekend to start towards British Columbia. Routine trip? It would be, if I weren't leaving my car and wallet behind.

I'm planning to do a combination of hitch-hiking, working for meals, and living off the land. All I'll have with me is a sleeping-bag, my hammock, some warm clothes, and a sense of enthusiasm.

Why do this? To raise money for a wash-house at a school in Cebu. They have 200+ kids and no proper facilities. The children have to go into the bushes to relieve themselves. That isn't right, and we can do something to help them.

I'm also looking to ground myself, getting back to my roots. I've found it too easy to take access to money and other western privileges for granted. I've built up this false sense of total independence.

But I owe a lot to those that came before me, and those who have helped me along the way. We didn't build the modern world that we get to take advantage of, and plenty of people worldwide don't have access to it. They just had the unfortunate luck of being born in the wrong place, or with the wrong network. If they wanted to move in search of opportunity, many would leave with just their clothes.

So, I'm going to make my way across the country to see what that kind of life really feels like.
