Hit-and-Run Pup Needs Surgery!

Donation protected
Yesterday, this lovely boy was found by the side of the road, left there to die in the ice and snow, by whomever hit him with their vehicle.

It turns out that Dozer, who is only 6 months old, had escaped from his home just up the road, unbeknownst to his best friend and owner, Matt Dejong. Matt was asleep at home, recuperating himself from an accident a week ago, that left him with a broken wrist and 2 broken vertebrae in his back. He did not know that his beloved dog had gotten out and wandered away from home.

Major Surgery Is Needed!

When I found Dozer lying in the snow bank by the side of the road, he was coated in ice, snow and dirt, he was freezing, and was obviously in a lot of pain. I immediately took him to a local vet, and after a series of x-rays and tests, and consultations with other vets in London, it has been determined that Dozer is in very rough shape. In addition to the head trauma he suffered, he has 3 major breaks in his pelvis, requiring very cost-prohibitive surgery to repair. Dozer needs to have his pelvis rebuilt in order to be able to walk again.

Matt is able to cover about half of the estimated cost of this surgery, which has been quoted at between $6000-$8000.00, but he needs our help to raise the rest of this money so that Dozer will be able to live a good, long life, where he will continue to sleep in bed and on the couch with Matt, and hang out with him as they do chores together on the farm.

The Power of Many:

I truly realized the power of social media yesterday when it only took one hour to find Dozer's owner and to connect with him. Over 250 people have shared my Facebook posting, and so many more commented and were happy to see that someone had come to the aid of this poor, helpless animal.

Well...I am really asking for your help now: please consider making a contribution to Dozer's surgery fund. If everyone who commented or shared the post yesterday were able to donate, even just a small amount, we can get this beautiful boy the surgery he needs to live out his life with his best friend.

The only other alternative is to have Dozer put to sleep, and this would be devastating to Matt and the people who have come to love Dozer in the 6 months he has been alive.

Time Is Of The Essence!

Please share this post far and wide and give what you can. I am not asking a lot from a few...but for many to give a little. The power of community, and those who love animals, is what is needed most right now!

Matt appreciates your assistance and concern so much! He simply cannot handle this financial burden without your help. He wants you to know, that should any funds be left over from this campaign, he will be donating them to the Simcoe and District Humane Society.

Thank you very much for your generosity!

Sincerely,

Sara Moody Veldhuis
