Historic Randy's Record Shop Foundation - Gallatin

Tax deductible
An overwhelming expression of desire has been voiced by individuals far and near to help save and restore the local landmark - Randy’s Record Shop, once housed in Gallatin, Tennessee. This campaign is your opportunity to support the newly created non-profit Historic Randy's Record Shop Foundation and its board with preliminary costs in association  with securing the structure, steps toward gaining historic recognition, legal and accounting fees, various application fees, survey needs and other expenses, as we communicate with the owners in hopes of restoring and recreating the once thriving and influential record shop.

Randy’s has a long history of influence in the music industry. Under the ownership of Randy Wood it became the world's largest mail order record store in the 1950’s and 1960’s. After the close of the shop in 1991 the building has housed several other businesses. Today, empty, the building is in need of repair. Recently the property was sold at auction by the out of state owners. The new owners, active Sumner Countians, have voiced a desire to work with The Historic Randy’s Record Shop Foundation. This puts the foundation a step closer to restoring the building.

The Historic Randy’s Record Shop Foundation has a vision of restoring the building and recapturing the life of the building in the late 50’s and 60’s, when it was used by its owner, Randy Wood, to sponsor a late-night radio show on one of the the far reaching radio stations in the country, WLAC out of Nashville. These broadcasts helped shape not only the music world but also the country as a whole through the lives of its listeners. Within the walls of the shop, a record label was born and Dot Records became one of the biggest around: featuring artists like Pat Boone, Mac Wiseman, Lawrence Welk, Roy Clark and more than 160 others.

As the foundation progresses through developmental stages to make the vision a reality, we will solicit grants and other means of funding, but at the present, we need your support through GoFundMe for preliminary costs.  Donations may also be mailed to the foundation at P.O. Box 8047 - Gallatin, Tennessee, 37066. A checking account in the same name is set up at Wilson Bank and Trust.

The foundation can be contacted at [email redacted]  or www.historicrandysrecordshopfoundation.org.  A Facebook page has been created by a Gallatin resident and offers history of the shop, Mr. Wood, and the music industry he influenced.

While we are working diligently and purposefully, some things are beyond our control.  In the unfortunate event this project does not evolve, any funds not needed for incurred expenses raised through this campaign will be donated to another non-profit or charity.
