Hip Fix for Julie

Donation protected
Hi friends, family and lovely ones.

Well most of you know the story of my sore hip saga, but here's a nutshell. After I had my 4th baby Rory at age 43, pain in my right hip developed. An x-ray showed a CAM deformity and dysplasia which possibly might have something to do with being breech.

At that time, a rather unfriendly surgeon told me that my only option was to "just suffer" until I was "ready" for a total hip replacement! For nearly 6 years, that's what I did ... until a wise person urged me, "Get a second opinion".

This led to an MRI which revealed a large anterior labral tear of the right hip. A hip labral tear involves the ring of cartilage (labrum) that follows the outside rim of the socket of your hip joint. In addition to cushioning the hip joint, the labrum acts like a rubber seal or gasket to help hold the ball at the top of your thighbone securely within your hip socket. It's like the rubber gasket has torn away from the bone. I saw a (much more friendly) surgeon who says he is able to repair this labral tear.

Normally this kind of tear occurs if you do some kind of strenuous activity like snow-boarding! Apparently, if you have slight deformity like mine, it can increase your chances of a labral tear.

At this point I have two options: go on the public waiting list, or pay out of pocket to go private (since we do not have health insurance). In our region, the catchment area is vast and full of older people suffering all kinds of disability as they wait for their surgeries. Therefore the waiting list is very long (several years).

So after much thought and prayer, we decided that rather than let my mobility, fitness and flexibility deteriorate even more than it has over these last 8 years, it would be best to pay for the surgery.

I'm 51 now and so very keen to recover my health and fitness so that I can continue to serve my family, church and community better, without the constant pain and disability of the last 8 years.

My surgery is planned for 7th November. I know that  you all have many needs and costs in your own lives and families, but any little you can spare will be so appreciated by us as we continue on the track of getting me up and moving again!

There's not much I can give in return, but what I do have I would love to share with you! As you know, I'm a qualified herbalist and I make beautiful herbal teas, bath blends, salves etc for my business, Blissful Herbs. So if you donate, please let me know your postal address because I'd love to send you a little herbal treat as a thank you. You can check out my website at www.blissfulherbs.com.au
and email me at [email redacted] to let me know your postal address and what you would like :)
