As a proud graduate of Indiana University and a journalist for four decades, it pains me to see very talented students graduating from Indiana's School of Media recently without having the opportunity to ply their craft right now in these difficult times.
I want to help change that through the Hilltop30 Scholarship Fund, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. I am a publisher of several websites on Sports Illustrated's team-specific fan pages. This includes my Indiana Hoosiers site, plus Pacers/NBA and Purdue/Big Ten sites. I want to add four people to my team but can't afford that solely on my own as these sites start up. So I'm asking for help by providing these four recent graduates (or close) with scholarships to begin their professional careers with me.
Some of my colleagues hire unpaid interns and I refuse to do that. You work, you get paid with me. I'm looking to raise $60,000 to hire four full-time people and my company, Hilltop30 Publishing Group, will match the other $60,000 to pay them all an annual salary of $30,000 per year.
This is your opportunity to help talented young journalists get their foot in the door in a high-profile position, plus get excellent mentoring and editing from experienced journalists.
Every hire I make through this scholarship fund will be an Indiana graduate through the School of Media. It's my way of giving back to my school as well by providing an opportunity. Your donations to this scholarship fund are completely tax deductible.
