Love & Help For Hillary & Baby

On Christmas Day 2015 my husband and I received one of the greatest gifts we could receive, our daughter Hillary told us we were going to have another grandchild! We of course were very excited, but had no idea that the next 7 months would be some of the hardest months Hillary and her family would ever go through.
This pregnancy started out like all of her others but quickly changed and our dear daughter was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum. At about 5 weeks along what we thought was natural morning sickness turned into 24 hours of constant vomiting. It became so bad I had to take her to the hospital every other day and sit with her for 4-6 hours while she was hooked up to an IV and was pumped full of fluids and nausea medications. Sadly, even that didn’t seem work. She began losing weight and she was losing it fast. At 93 lbs it was obvious she didn’t have any to lose and her weight loss became dangerously low. The doctor’s decided that for her baby’s survival they would insert a picc line.
The picc line allowed her to have the fluids and nausea medication from home through home healthcare, but she was still very sick. She was so sick she couldn’t take care of her other three small children. So, everyday I would drive to her house to take care of them while she laid on her bathroom floor continuously vomiting, but it got worse, much, much worse. Her picc line clotted off requiring it to be removed and a new picc line inserted, but that didn’t work either. After a few short weeks she woke up with a 104 degree temperature from an infection due to the picc line. It progressed very quickly into sepsis, forcing her into critical care at the hospital where the second pic line was removed.
Nearly a week later they believed the infection was under control and she was released from the hospital to go home, but was back on the IV’s. It was only a few days later when at 21 weeks in her pregnancy she went in to labor and was rushed back to the hospital. It was extremely difficult listening to not one but several doctors tell her that it would be better that her little boy not survive. They explained to her that if he were born and lived he would probably be blind, have brain bleeding and cerebral palsy. With tears streaming down her face she begged them to please do something to help him, so in a last ditch effort they sent her by ambulance to the University of Utah hospital. At the U of U hospital, they managed to slow down her labor enough to place rescue stitches in her cervix. In the following weeks, and during one of many hospitalizations at the U of U hospital, they discovered she had a rare infection. This infection threatened not only the baby’s but her health and life as well. After several touch and go days they finally determined that the infection hadn’t reached the baby. Once completing the antibiotic therapy she had been receiving, she was sent home to complete bed rest.
We were very grateful that things seemed to be finally going okay, when suddenly they weren't. Hillary called and told me her water had broken at 27 weeks. We met her at the hospital convinced the little boy was going to be born that night. That’s when the waiting game began. She receives regular antibiotics to prevent any infection and has been confined to bed in the hospital. We are now at 5 straight weeks confined to that hospital bed and we have 3 more to go before they will induce the baby’s birth. I can attest that MIRACLES HAPPEN. When baby Valdez is finally born we are confident that he will be viable. Unfortunately, we don’t know how long he will have to stay in the NICU or what developmental problems he may have. We are also unsure of the accompanying treatments he will need because of these problems.
To say the least we are extremely blessed to have come this far, but it didn’t come without a cost. Our daughter Hillary and her husband Sloan now face thousands and thousands of dollars in medical expenses with many more to potentially come.
I have created this GoFundMe account to help them pay these huge medical expenses. We hope this will allow them the ability to deal with any problems that will be part of their new baby’s life, without having the heavy burden of unbearable medical expenses. To make matters worse, because of her extreme sickness Hillary has been unable to work and has lost her job and of course that income. I am praying that the generosity of family and friends will be another miracle in our lives and help them.
