<div><strong>Valescas Krankengeschichte</strong>

<div>2010 lernte Valesca ihren heutigen Ehemann, Shane, kennen - einen Neuseeländer, der damals seinen Bruder Rob, der in Deutschland lebt, besuchte. Ein Jahr darauf folgte sie ihm nach Neuseeland – wenige Monate später wurde sie krank. 2012 wurde bei ihr ME/CFS diagnostiziert.

<div>In den letzten Jahren kamen weitere schwerwiegende Diagnosen hinzu, darunter Pemphigus vulgaris – eine seltene Autoimmunerkrankung. Bei ihr führt diese Erkrankung zu schmerzhaften Blasenbildungen im gesamten Mundraum und in der Speiseröhre. Diese Blasen platzen, bluten, verursachen starke Schmerzen und erschweren ihr das Schlucken. Aufgrund der Symptome und eines Kompressionssyndroms einer wichtigen Aorta im Bauchraum (MALS), das erst vor Kurzem entdeckt wurde, ist sie seit Jahren nicht mehr in der Lage, normal zu essen oder zu trinken.

<div>Heute ist sie auf eine Dünndarmsonde zur künstlichen Ernährung und Infusionen zur Flüssigkeitszufuhr angewiesen. Trotz dieser Maßnahmen bleibt ihr Zustand kritisch: Bei einer Körpergröße von 1,80 m wiegt sie nur 47 Kilogramm und ist schwer untergewichtig. Schon kleine Anstrengungen belasten sie extrem.

<div>Durch einen Behandlungsversuch der Autoimmunerkrankung mit Chemotherapie, der leider erfolglos blieb, kam es zu einer schwerwiegenden Pilzinfektion der Lunge (invasive Aspergillose), die ihre Lunge stark schädigte. Außerdem hat sie durch ärztliche Fehleinschätzungen, unzureichende Schmerzbehandlung und Eingriffe ohne ausreichende Betäubung eine schwere posttraumatische Belastungsstörung entwickelt.

<div>Bewegung ist für sie nur sehr eingeschränkt möglich. Sie ist auf einen elektrischen Rollstuhl angewiesen und kann aktuell nur etwa 100 Meter mit großer Anstrengung zurücklegen – danach folgen tagelange Erschöpfung und Schmerzen, trotz starker Schmerzmittel.

<div><strong>Der Alltag von Valesca und ihrem Ehemann</strong>

<div>Sie lebt mit ihrem Mann Shane in Neuseeland ohne ausreichendes Unterstützungsnetzwerk vor Ort. Ein Umzug nach Deutschland ist aufgrund der körperlichen Einschränkungen nicht möglich. Ihr Mann arbeitet körperlich hart als Zaunbauer und kümmert sich um alles, wobei Valesca Hilfe braucht – er begleitet sie zu Arztterminen (immer mindestens eine Stunde entfernt), legt ihre Infusionen an, wechselt die Sonden, hilft bei der Medikamentengabe und übernimmt den Haushalt.

<div>Ihrem Mann stehen jährlich nur zehn bezahlte Krankheitstage und zehn Urlaubstage zu, die er für Arzttermine und Krankenhausaufenthalte von Valesca nutzt. Er muss zusätzlich häufig unbezahlt frei nehmen. Er ist zunehmend erschöpft und selbst inzwischen psychisch belastet.

<div>Mit Hilfe der Familien konnte ein renovierungsbedürftiges Haus übernommen und bereits mit einige Renovierungsarbeiten begonnen werden. Die Familien helfen so gut sie können, doch vieles bleibt noch zu tun..

<div><strong>Valesca's medical history </strong>

<div>In 2010, Valesca met her current husband Shane - a New Zealander who was visiting his brother Rob, who lives in Germany. A year later, she followed him to New Zealand – a few months later, she got sick. In 2012, she was diagnosed with ME/CFS.
</div>

</div>
<div>In recent years, other serious diagnoses have been added, including pemphigus vulgaris – a rare autoimmune disease. In her case, this disease causes painful blisters throughout the mouth and esophagus. These blisters burst, bleed, cause severe pain, and make swallowing difficult. Due to the symptoms and a compression syndrome of a major aorta in the abdominal cavity (MALS), which was only recently discovered, she has been unable to eat or drink normally for years.

<div>Today, she relies on a jejunal tube for artificial nutrition and infusions for hydration. Despite these measures, her condition remains critical: at a height of 1.80 m, she only weighs 47 kilograms and is severely underweight. Even small efforts put extreme strain on her.

<div>A treatment attempt for the autoimmune disease with chemotherapy, which unfortunately was unsuccessful, led to a severe fungal infection of the lungs (invasive aspergillosis), which greatly damaged her lungs. Additionally, due to medical misjudgments, inadequate pain management, and procedures performed without sufficient anesthesia, she has developed a severe post-traumatic stress disorder.

<div>Movement is only very limited for her. She depends on an electric wheelchair and can currently only cover about 100 meters with great effort – after that, she faces days of exhaustion and pain, despite strong pain relievers.

<div><strong>The everyday life of Valesca and her husband </strong>
</div>

<div>She lives with her husband Shane in New Zealand without sufficient local support networks. Moving to Germany is not possible due to her physical limitations. Her husband works physically hard as a fence builder and takes care of everything, while Valesca needs assistance – he accompanies her to doctor appointments (always at least an hour away), administers her infusions, changes the tubes, helps with medication administration, and manages the household.

<div>Her husband has only ten paid sick days and ten vacation days per year, which he uses for Valesca's doctor appointments and hospital stays. He frequently has to take unpaid leave as well. He is increasingly exhausted and has also become mentally burdened. With the help of the families, a run-down house was taken over and some renovation work has already begun. The families help as much as they can, but there is still much to be done.

<div>Despite all the hardships, Valesca continues to fight with admirable patience and strength. We are impressed by her resilience, her positive attitude, and the fact that she always has an open ear for us and our problems.

<div>We really hope that this campaign can at least ease Valesca's and Shane's financial worries a bit. They both deserve to be able to breathe, have time for each other, and treat themselves to something small. We are grateful for any form of support – whether it’s a donation or sharing this campaign.
